Went by road to Jinshanling from Beijing. It is a bit further by road but well worth the extra travelling. It was almost deserted and we could walk the wall without all those tourists. We went with a guide which was a great advantage as you learn a lot more. We took lunch with and had it sitting on the... More

On a 6 day trek of the Great Wall, this was my favourite part. We hiked 14 km from Gubeikou to Jinshanling and simply loved the wall. Undulating with about 500m elevation gain according to my GPS. Lots of restored and un-restored sections along the way and so many opportunities for sweeping vistas with the wall threading back and forth... More

The Great Wall at Jinshanling is my favorite one in Beijing. Campared with other sections,it is more natural. a 2-day tour is highly recommended, because you can see the sunset in the evening and the sunrise in the morning. It is also the perfect place for photograph and camping, it has campsite there, but you need to bring your own tent and... The tour was great, it leaves early morning from the Hutong area and then take you the the wall after 1 1/2 hour drive. At the wall you have 3 hours to hike from tower 1 to tower 22 which is reasonable and totally beautiful.

Wonderful moment in the middle of dry mountains within the suburb of the rural Beijing. To be honest, coming there on your own is an ordeal and expensive, whether in terms of budget or struggling with taxi, fake taxi, bus and fake buses... But eventually, the adventure worth it. Once you firstly get on the wall, all you can see... More

We took a day trip with Simon Xiao, as many other reviewers had recommended. 5-star experience there; he was a great guide. Hiking the wall was of course an amazing experience. I just don't know if driving all the way out to this section is worth it. It was still rather crowded, and because of the pollution of Beijing, what... More

The Jinshanling great wall was fantastic! We had a great experience climbing the wall. One of the best things according to this place is that it's so uncrowded. Sometimes, you can be alone which make the possibilities for taking photos and enjoy the beautiful surroundings even better. I definitely recommend everyone who would like to se the Great Wall to... Just walked 5 miles on the Jinshanling wall towards Samatai but found like few others this route is closed, so we had to turn back & return to Jinshanling. The wall was fantastic seems to go on & on up & down twisting & turning no wonder the Chinese refer it to the Dragon. This was my first visit to... More

The day started rather early and cold. But nothing can deter me and my friend to venture the none restored area of the grand Great Wall. Climbing from the small town below, on the side of the mountain ( not at all the most common touristy way), I was warned by John (Hereisbeijing.com) the awesomest tour guide ever, that there... I imagine this is the way the wall was. On this stretch it wasn't fixed up, there were people selling to tourists every 50 ft. Many times we looked forward and backward and could only see people in the far distant. It's tough trekking. We encountered one family from Sweden who brought their grandmother along. She must have been over... More
