I visited the Beijing Zoo during my trip to China and was really disappointed. It seemed like the animals were not treated very well. Their living spaces seemed pretty small and a lot of them were kept seperated from each other. Also, the people there would throw garbage into the animals pens to get their attention. While my friend and... more

Just visit the Beijing Zoo last month with kids. As a native grown-up from Beijing, it is a unique experience bring kids to visit the park. Zoo offers a unique experience to observer animals like panda, elephant, etc. Shi-hu-shan (tiger and lion mountain) is too old, it needs a total renovation. Snake and Reptile Halls are our favorites. We spend... more

Beijing is not the best zoo ive seen, at least not when it comes to animal care. The park and layout itself is pretty good, and its easy to find the way to all spots, with english info/markers and pointers. As for the cages and areas for the different animals, it is a tragedy for some of it. Arctic animals... more

This place is a prison for animals, perhaps better suited for a study in Soviet-bloc architecture or a history of zoo design in the early 20th century. That said, they've got a six or so pandas on display in an environment that is about on par with the worst U.S. zoo exhibits I've seen. And the kiddies can feed the... more

Just recently enjoyed seeing the Panda's at the Zoo. They were nice and active in the morning which is the recommended time. I wanted to post my photo's as there were some recent panda inquiries in the forums. Enjoy if you go. more

The pandas were the highlight of my visit to the Beijing Zoo last summer---they had just brought in a new group of pandas from Sichuan province in the aftermath of the earthquake, and now the zoo boasts one of the largest collection of pandas in any zoo that I've ever seen. There were huge throngs of tourists that it required... more

Visited at the end of the low season for the princely sum of 10RMB - it goes up to 15RMB Apr-Oct and paid the extra 5RMB to see the pandas (penguins were 10RMB - perhaps they do a show?). You can pay 120RMB all-in with the aquarium but my cheapy was fine for the best part of five hours wandering... more

Going to see the pandas is a must when visiting China. If you aren't lucky enough to see them in the wild then the zoo is a very poor second. Panda enclosure is the most prominent and had reasonably priced souvenirs. The other enclosures are not so endearing. The big cat building is particulary depressing as are the hippos in... more

We went to the Beijing zoo with our two kids, aged 7 and 3 in end october. Our expectations were low, taking in account the reviews we red before. Nevertheless we really appreciated the place: the panda area is nice, you can see some of them in the trees outside, and they also have a completely renovated indoor area. Don't... more
