Beijing is not the best zoo ive seen, at least not when it comes to animal care. The park and layout itself is pretty good, and its easy to find the way to all spots, with english info/markers and pointers. This place is a prison for animals, perhaps better suited for a study in Soviet-bloc architecture or a history of zoo design in the early 20th century. Visited at the end of the low season for the princely sum of 10RMB - it goes up to 15RMB Apr-Oct and paid the extra 5RMB to see the pandas (penguins were 10RMB - perhaps they do a show?). Going to see the pandas is a must when visiting China. If you aren't lucky enough to see them in the wild then the zoo is a very poor second.
