we visited on a hot and humid day in late July with a fantastic guide/driver from beijing - the walk up to the cable car is hard work for anyone even slightly unfit but worth it - the kids enjoyed the whole experienced (10, 8 and 5 ) and coped well with the heat and general terrain - take some... I was really scared of the crowd scene I'd witnessed at Tianmen mountain cable car and the train to Badaling earlier in my visit and was having second thoughts about visiting the Great Wall. But then I decided I'll go and try Mutianyu. I'll remember this decision to be one of my best decisions in my whole life! Getting there... More

Went on a tour with Magical china which was great . Visited "The Great Wall" during our trip . Took a cable car up to "The Great Wall" which was good . "The Wall "was out of this world and the best thing was it was empty .Took some great pictures of my daughter and I with " The Wall"... More

This was an experience of a lifetime! It was absolutely magnificent experience. Took the toboggan down quite fun. The chairlift is nice to limit the climb up to the wall but be for warned there is still quite a bit of steep climbing and pretty strenuous for even the young and in shape.

Can tick it off my bucket list, was quite busy at the beginning but seemed to thin out the higher you got, the views are fantastic, if anybody goes to China surely they have to visit the Great Wall, shops and drinks on the way up which are a help, they even sell small flannels which was much appreciated, so... Three of us found a student tour guide through the International Studies Department at USTB in Beijing, and she accompanied us in a private car with a driver for a day trip to Mutianyu. We didn't pay her; we simply paid her admission to the wall. Chinese students are always looking to connect with international travellers, especially English speakers, in... More

The Great Wall had not been on my bucket list but should have been. The thrill of sharing the experience of walking on the wall with my grandson while our guide gave us fascinating details is something I will always cherish. Of the two ways to access the wall, gondola or chairlift, for the adventurous, choose the chairlift and ride... More

Great place to explore. I stayed 3 nights at Yi Yuan Farms in the village. Awesome hosts and great village. Lots of hikes up to the wall and once on the wall a lot of extended hikes beyond the remodeled portion. Don't waste money on chair lift. The steps up are easy and a nice peaceful view. Take your time... More

We think of China, we think of the great wall. It's an easy trip from Beijing, by bus or with a tour. Although we didn't take advantage, I imagine the view from the gondola must be spectacular. We took cable cars which were fun. In the off season, it's not at all crowded. There's a feel that you're part of history... More

I was lucky that when I went on a Wednesday in July it wasn't extremely crowded. Bring a lot of water with you, it is a strenuous experience but worth every drop of sweat and ache. You can take a toboggan or cable car down. I took the cable car so I could take photos along the way down :)
