It was a nice part of the Great wall. Very scenic. Do go for cherry picking on your way back. Take Tobagan for the down hill journey if your health permits But avoid rainy days.

Travelling out to Mutianyu from Beijing is an adventure in itself. From the city, through rural areas where multi lane roads just seem to appear every so often. Arriving at the car park, the mountains dominate the skyline with small turrets in view off in the distance. There is now a substantial tourist area (shops/market/restaurants) where you buy the tickets... More

The highlight of my trip! Not overly corwded but balking on the wall could be strenuous for those with health concerns. The views were fantastic.

Took the cable car ride to the first portion of the wall. And then, we walked the ancient stones of the Great Wall at Mutianyu. It was a cold winter's day in December with blustery winds but when we we on the wall itself, it was comfortable walking. It was a clear day with blue skies for us. Great for... More

We just returned froma visit to the Mutianyu section of the Wall via Tour Beijing (see my separate review of them) - you must go! While this section is slightly further from Beijing, it is so worth it when you are on the Wall with far fewer crowds. The drive there is partly through rural villages and orchards and it... More

Came to this part of the Great Wall recently in Dec 2014. Arranged a tour for my family of 4. This part of the wall is definitely further than Badaling Great Wall. It took abt 2 hrs ride(highway) from Beijing. Journey is a bit winding passing small towns/villages than Badaling. Being to both, I would say the 1st big difference... More

A little farther than other parts of the Wall but oh so worth it. We hired a private car (we strongly recommend a little taxi operative run by a guy named Joe, www.joe-service.com, but we went with Terrence who was AWESOME and you should definitely ask for him. Both speak very very good English, which is refreshing in Beijing.) for... More

Liked: Fewer visitors so more room to move and enjoy. Take the cable car up, walk from Tower 14 to Tower 6 and take the toboggan down. LOVED: The toboggan ride down. Do it!!
