Caught a cab from Beijing and then a cable car up. Very easy for toddlers and less mobile people. You can still walk for ages and have spectacular view. Try to go after a big rain- makes visibility much better. There a nice place to eat in the town below the wall.

Have seen from many photos, but when you really see it, feel it, it is really amazing structure. Imagine that there is no machine and technology like today, buidling this marvelous structure shows that Chinese has advance knowledge in architecture and engineering for long time ago.

Probably the best attaction we visited in our 13 days in China. From the moment we trudged up through the local markets to the cable cars, we knew we weren't as fit as we should be. At the top of the cable cars we again were challenged by more stairs to the wall. Once on the wall we took the... More

Breathtaking structure. You don't need to be an engineer or architect to appreciate the design and difficulty of this wall. It's amazing how people actually built this so long ago. The history is also extremely interesting and reading about it briefly beforehand helped put a lot in perspective. The view along the wall is spectacular and you can track the... More

Go first thing in morning- no crowds. They have a new visitor center and bus you up to the location you can take the chair lift up from. If you walk up steps and do not chair lift up it takes approx. 1.5 hours to go up many stairs. Bring BUG SPRAY! bugs are everywhere!! Toboggan down was a great... More

Get there early (ie before 9am) for an uncrowded walk to the top. Great views. Walk was challenging if you are not fit :).

quit special to visit the Wall in the mountains because you get nice views of stretches of the meandering Wall. But be aware, the effort hiking the Wall is strenous. Especially in summertime with +35 degrees and the sun burning down on you.... Absolutely worth the effort though :-)
