Mutianyu was less crowded then others, it was a great experience that we can climb/hike this place. A must go place when u are in Beijing. You will never forget this experience. I want to go again if I comeback to Beijing :) You have a choice to go up with cable car and go down with toboggan :)

A much better alternative to Badaling, Mutianyu is less crowded, less touristy and more scenic. It may not have all the "attractions" as Badaling (so it depends largely on what you want out of the experience), but if your primary goal is to have a place to see a decent section of the wall, to be able to hike at... This was my second visit ti the Great wall. We booked a freelancer Beijing-er tour guide and were very happy. Jack walked with us the entire 3 hours at the wall - told stories and history and we did not pay until we were dropped back to hotel. Did not need to bargain - fair pricing and very good command... I have been there several years ago with a bunch of friends, and we went for a hike. The view is no less spectacular than the great wall at Badaling but with much less visitors. Great experience.

Not too far for it to be unpractical, not too close for it to be swarmed. Although transportation could be a minor annoyance is really worth to visit MuTianYu. There are good services nearby, and for an extra twist you can take the slide on the way down.

This place has good view of natural scenery, better than the Badaling one. Especially in Autumn, the leafs turns to red or yellow, and the view looks great with Great Wall itself.

The history behind the wall and the building is awesome. A must see! Make sure you have enough memory on your camera when you go there.

1 1/2 hr. drive from Park Plaza, and scenic, with a stop at an artist pottery center, which gave us opportunity to see the artists at work. (Wonderful). If you like to negotiate with merchants, at the base, before starting or ending the climb, buy once you've agreed on a price. Amazing how the people were able to get these... More

We had already visited a wild section of the wall when we came to Mutianyu and also loved this area too - great to see the wall as it would have been - simply stunning. It's well worth the hundreds of steps to go right to the end - our 4 and 7 year old enjoyed the challenge but also... More
