We were staying in Beijing and from there it is about 2 hours to go to the great wall at Mutianyu. Best and cheapest way to go there: go to the Dongzhimen bus station, which is in a building. Take bus 916 and go to the final stop. At the last stops there will be taxidrivers getting in to the... More

Although the tour allowed to stay here only for 2 hours, we walked up the wall until the 'stone word' on top. Walking the wall is amazing, the view of the rest of the wall is amazing and knowing the story makes it fill even more amazing. This part of the wall is not too crowded, you can easily walk... More

This isn't a review perse, as I'd only be echoing what others have said. However, I wanted to write some information on how to get there by public transport. Take the metro or bus to Dong Zhi Men (东直门) then get the 916 bus to the terminal station (Huai Rou Qi Che Zhan 怀柔汽车站). From there you can get the... More

I did Mutianyu in spring with all the surrounding trees flowering--Very scenic. Follow the wall to the left (going right eventually takes you back down.) Really need to have good boots to handle the cobblestone walking surfaces. You will encounter old ladies selling cheap hats, post cards and drinks, but you are paying at least 400 per cent more than... More

This section of the wall was about an hour away from the city and personally, I would have probably taken a different route had I known what means we will use to go up and down. We took the cable cars up, and personally this was a somewhat terrifying experience for me. There is no preparation, you just hop on... More

When you visit the great wall of China it really makes one feel like they've achieved something great in life. The place is beautiful with so many tourists in site everybody taking fotos. There are many souvenir shops located at the entrance of the climb most of them with reasonable prices. When you get to the top they give you... More

I was fortunate enough to have a Chinese friend on this trip and used public transport to get to the wall. Its a must see for anyone and really tests ones fitness.

Visiting the Great Wall at Mutianyu was an excellent experience and one that I'd do again; This section of the wall is picturesque and the best for photos and general ease of walking (not that it's that easy). There are some things I think we got "right", however, there were also some key aspects I'd go about in an entirely... More
