I visited this area during a weekday evening, so it was not crowded. It is full of bars, pubs and locals with live shows so it might be one of the best things to come here during weekends. The atmosphere was stunning. All the lights from the buildings, their reflections on the water of the lake and the traditional chinese... More

In the winter, you can ice chair skate on the lake. In the summer, there is people watching and boating. People swim in it year round, which is quite entertaining. There are also lots of great restaurants and shops in the surrounding hutongs. This is a spot that is truly "Beijing" and I'd recommend it to anybody visiting Beijing.

A great place to walk by day but at night when the lights come on it is a kaleidoscope of colour. A great place to relax and people watch. Lots of live entertainment. Listen from outside as the bar prices are very high. We had a couple of drinks spread over many hours as the prices shocked us. Still worth... More

We really enjoyed walking around this area, taking a rickshaw ride through the hutongs and just enjoying being outside in a more scenic area of Beijing. Lots and lots of little restaurants are located here and many with upstairs views of the lake and surrounding bars and restaurants. We found our way here by using the subway - with two... More

There are numerous restaurants and bars around the lakes. It is busy and populated by locals. Most of the bars have live music and you are able to choose the music of your choice. However, it is not the best place to go if you want to enjoy good local food, or at least we were unable to find it.... More

Nice place for a walk, enjoyed strolling round the hutong and lake but had constant attention from rickshaw drivers, restaurant touts and store staff. It would be nice to enjoy the area without the pressure. We eventually chose to eat at pyongyang restaurant where the menu looked reasonable and staff were all nicely dressed up. The staff were very attentive and later... More

We enjoyed our time spent walking round Hou Hai park. Expect to pay a small entrance fee in some of the Beijing Parks but once in you can while around many an hour escaping from the noise and crowds in the busy adjoining streets. Lots of places to snack and drink and most not too expensive. If you have planned... More

Hou Hai lake is lovely. We weren't really sure where the "main areas" were, so we started on the North end. There were a couple of lovely waterside bars and patios that we stopped at. By the time we got to the bottom/south side, we realized that is where all the action is. Tons of cute restaurants with rooftops. We... More

We went on New Year's Eve and it was not very crowded. People were shooting aerial fireworks from the hutongs and every couple of minutes a business would set off a string of firecrackers, drawing a crowd. Lots of smoke and red paper in the street. Many restaurants and bars to choose from, a nice place to walk around and... More

We went there late and we were tired. The lake was very pretty and the store was very interesting. I like the old China. This is what I want to see when I visited there. The buildings are very stylish. If you have time, you should stop by every store. The is a scenic you can't miss!
