If you only have a day in Beijing, this isn't at the very top of the list. But if you've seen the major sites and are looking for some peace and quiet, this is exactly the right spot for you!

Basically a lake for boating. Swimming and fishing is prohibited so there are people swimming and fishing! Lots of places to eat/drink.

We went at about 5pm on a Saturday night and we walked, ate and drank until 11pm. It was lovely to walk around the lake and watch people fishing or swimming. There are plenty of bars around the lake and it's cool to walk around the neon filled streets. There are some people trying to get you into bars but... More

I have since this place grow over the years. Even though the bars grow more and more in numbers, they are offering similar stuff. Nevertheless, it's still a great place to hang out. It's really a very versatile place. In hotter months, you can go cycle on the lake. In winter months, you can skate on the frozen lake. The... More

along one side of the lake you'll find a multitude of western style dining, from the Munich inspired Paulaner bar with its nightly live music, and Italian spaghetti houses selling every kind of expensive foods. On the other side, is the Asian area, my favourite is Nuage, a Vietnamese inspired establishment, I always have to take their sweet pumpkin soup.... More

Dear nightlife lovers, this is the perfect spot to spend your night time in Beijing. There are lots of restaurants and bars with live band performances that will keep you busy all night. The lake, beautiful lights, and lots of bars, what more could you ask?

Nice views very peaceful, plenty of rickshaws to take you around. Lots of places to eat, not very many places to buy souvenirs but nice place to see families gather and fish and play with the children.

For shopping, boating, and entertainment of all kinds... this is a place I return to up on every trip to Bei Jing. The charm of the surrounding Hu Tongs and how the locals mix in with the tourists discovery of this Xanadu, is reason enough for some of my return trips to China. Having photographed and filmed nearly every inch... More

Very pleasant views, restful location in the middle of the downtown historic district of Beijing (Xicheng). Hard to imagine you are walking in the middle of the city. Kids and grandmothers in the park, older residents taking their "constitutional" or occasionally exercising in the provided park equipment. Pleasant historic mansions with wonderful gardens and grounds (entry fee). Quite nice bars... More
