Very attractive urban lake

Grab a coffee at Starbucks (order carefully) and have a nice little sit-down here at a public bench. Good place for a little break amid a busy day of touring.

Supposedly the place to be for nightlife in Beijing. However, Houhai was very chaotic to me. The music was overly loud and the drinks were expensive. Some of the staff of the pubs were quite unfriendly and rude. Felt like a night wasted there.

Hubby and I are not a nightlife person. Saw a video on Youtube but the real thing was not as nice as what shown on the video. Good thing we didn't have to put much effort to go there as our hotel was in the area. Maybe because we went there on a week night, all the bars looked empty.... More

We took the MTR/subway (Yuan 6 each) to Shihahai, exit C, north west exit. Really easy travel, but sometimes there are long walks between changing Subway Lines. Walked 2 minutes to Hou Hai Lake District directly opposite. Quite good fun to see local people enjoying themselves - for example, a really good drumming group. Went on a Sunday. Lots of... More

This is where the nightlife happens (or so I was told). Lot of bars, not that many clubs but all in all nice to see

Nice area and good to have a coffee break from busy Beijing. Several coffee and bars with relaxing atmosphere. During night time many bars with (Chinese) live music.

Getting to and from at night is quite a challenge as traffic is horrible. Lots of bars with "local talent" performing. Full of street vendor food and "tourist junk" for sale.

I came to this place by accident rather than design, to be honest. It was only after I got off from the metro station that I discovered to my delight that I was right smack in Shichahai. There is an old street which has a certain charm about it, where you get to feel as if you were walking through... More

I like the atmosphere over here. It's suitable for us to have a stroll in the evening. Many souvenir shops and bars on this street.
