Walking from the street along the shore of this artificial late, you are assaulted by live music from almost every bar you pass via speakers placed on the street. Almost every bar has some kind of live entertainment, each one is full of interesting people, each one sells beer, what more could you want? Oh yes, you could want a... More

We headed to this area after visiting the Drum Tower and it was well worth it. A 10 minute walk from the tower, the lake area offers a wide array of choices for places to eat and shop. And yes, we even found a Starbucks to top off the night with a warm coffee before heading back on the subway.... More

This is a very great place to go in the evening. All around the lake there are restaurant and bar which is all lit up and the bands are just going about with their music. It will be very loud and people outside asking you to go in and check it out. If you have kids this will not be... More

The Hou Hai area is very nice to visit during the evening, it is also very close to some Hutongs. You would mainly go to Hou Hai to have dinner/drinks during the evening. The only drawback is that most of the bars usually have a live band performance and the volume is really really loud.

Our daughter lives in China and brought is here for the day. We walked around both of the lakes...quite beautiful. One side of the lake is lined with bars and restaurants, many of which were not open during the day. The place, supposedly, is hopping at night! It is near the Drum and Bell Tower and Great Leap Brewing Company,... More

I was there alone starting from the Hutong around the Bell & Drum Tower. I was naive (stupid?) enough to hire one of the tricycle to take me around, agreeing at 50 rmb.The hutong really had nothing worth visiting. The neighborhood may look old, but with the aircon in foreign cars parking in front of them, it has lost its... More

We came as we heard it was the place to go out. I guess maybe if you know the local spots but this has a bunch of touts trying to pull you into their bars. The bars were mostly dead when we went. Tourist crowd the streets, and neon lights take away from what could be a more beautiful setting.... More

It made for a nice evening stroll but with the bar owners constantly hassling you and the music blaring out over each other, there's probably more peaceful and relaxing ways to spend an evening in the city.

As our accommodation in the hutongs was nearby, we had to go through this neighbourhood all the time during our 5d stay in Beijing. The night lights around the lake are OK and the area is definitely buzzing day & night but it is so fake & the cacophony created by the multiples bars, karaoke joints, calls from the touts... More

Our tour took us to this area where we were taken on rickshaws to visit a local family. The views of the lakes are lovely (it was a bright sunny day) and the old buildings, which are preserved, are quite fascinating. Unfortunately our tour did not permit us time to fully explore the area, it looked worthwhile seeing a great... More
