Experiencing some old times...

Nice place to walk around and experience some vibrant Hutong life. Almost feels that time came to a standstill and this is how it might have been here for hundreds of years.

All Expats are recommended to visit Houhai. We stumbled across this gem whilst riding the rickshaws. This is the Chinese version of Sanlitun. There is very little expats here. The bars and restaurants situated on the lake are colourful, trendy and full of life. We loved it and highly recommend.

Saturday night was crowded and loud with thousands of people. Everyone walking around looking for food and drinks. Many cafes and bars many with live bands or karaoke style. Most bars are opened so you can choose the music you like. We stopped at a live band with male and female singers. Very good. Fun place to visit.

Very nice lake, peaceful scenery. Overall Beijing parks are quite nice, only drawback: you can't seat on the grass like in London. Very funny during winter with lot of activities for the families... And nice walk when hot and not too polluted.

I always like exploring local thing during travel. This place contains one of the few remaining traditional Beijing style residential household, namely "Hu Tong". It refers to those allies and old building in Beijing. But they are getting rare now because of developments. Restaurants over there have great lake side view but food are expensive and is only at "tourist... More

nice and noisy! absorb the sounds of the lake and bars clubs. Hou Hai is a lake with strips of bars and clubs surrounding- some sleazy but mostly family oriented and having singers and alcohol served smack in your face. theres a couple of jazz bars, and roof top bars as well.

Went both during the day and during the night, and definitely go for the latter if you don't have enough time to try both. The restaurants (Italian, Chinese, North Korean cuisines and others..) and bars are full of people and most have loud live entertainment. There are a few food stands further down as well. We didn't eat anywhere, but... More

Try and see this area at night, lots of bars and food and the lights are cool to see on the water. It's worth going to if you aren't afriad to brave the subway, stations are basically on either sid elf the park area. Live music at night in the bars.

Three lakes that has a good walking track around and you can also cycle the area. Lakes are nice without being special. Lots of tourists and bars, restaurants and souvenir shops, great activity so well worth a visit.

Bars and restaurants aplenty circle Houhai Lake. Bars with live music, impromptu karaoke and even real lamas.... unique nightlife experience. Lots of touts flogging lasers just in case you're desperately in need.
