Really nice place to spend an evening since there are lots of western type restraunts and stuff. Also a nice place to go on a boat in summer on to go skiing in winter.

Favourite part of the city! Perfect area for long walks. Photographic areas abound. Peaceful in the heart of the city.

Winding paths, the lakes, of course, boutiques, shops of all kinds, restaurants, and a wonderful tea house with talkative parrot. We went twice during our stay.

I went to Back Lake during Winter season and the lake was frozen up to the extent that you can skate on it! It is definitely a venue that's suitable for families, friends and couples. Do not worry if you cannot skate because they have many varieties available that doesn't require skills at all. Not only are they skating blade,... More

I visited this pretty lake on a crystal-clear late winter afternoon. I can't tell you how wonderful it was. It was full of families young kids and what appeared to be mostly locals enjoying a nice Saturday afternoon. For me the highlight was the ice covered lake that was full of families on little chairs and carts made to skate... More

this is across the road from Behai Park and is equally as beautiful. It's a bit more commercialised with restaurants surrounding the lake.Food was not great in the couple of places we tried but most people seemed to have brought lunch with them

Perhaps it's due to the winter season, the place wasn't as happening as what our guide described - people singing and dancing everywhere, partying, eating, drinking, having fun. It's like a happening place for nightlife. But when we got there, streets were not as bustling as what we imagined. People were mostly rushing to get to places, bars/pubs were pretty... More

Ice biking and ice chairs are an experience everyone should have. Beijing in winter does not have to be all doom and gloom, there is so much fun to be had like this!

Walk around and explore the shops and restaurants in the surrounding hutongs. Grab a few Yanjing, rent a boat and go for a cruise (guided or unguided) around the lakes. There is something for everybody here. Lots of nightlife in the surrounding bars and restaurants.

I enjoyed Hou Hai very much. Since Most folks will say about the same thing about how nice the area is, interesting bars etc. I thought I'd mention the peddle cabs in the area. If you want a ride around the lake, it will take some work on your part. 90% of the bicycle (or scooter) cabs in the area... More
