We had a banquet sponsored by our cruise line at the Great Hall of the People during our stay in Beijing. The whole event was very much a mock state function orchestrated by the cruise line and the Chinese government. It was a very interesting event. The building is ostentatiously decorated with very large everything. The entertainment was culturally interesting... More

I've only been inside with exclusive event a few years ago with Hu Jintao presiding. Incredible building and experience. Imposing on the outside, but more ornate and grand inside.

Not only Great but bombastic! Everything there is enormous. Good opportunity to see the communist official setting in Beijing.

If travelling at the weekend to this attraction beware of the big crowds. We visited in on a Sturday in October and it was quite busy. For security reasons bags & napsacks are not allowed into the Great Hall...security gaurds will not let you in with a bag,,,,even a camera bag. (Mobile phones are alllowed). There is a place to... We had a group of customers in Beijing from the US and what an incredible way to welcome them to China. Right across from Tiananmen Square, especially exquisite at night, they had wonderful service, food and the venue was just magnificent. They have event rooms that can hold from 50 to 500 or more and any event would be wonderful... More

You wont fail to notice this brilliant building just off Tiananmen Square, home of the Chinese government. Due to the size of the square and the entrance to the building I'd say take the subway to QianMen (前门站) - Line 2, or Tiananmen East (天安门东站) - Line 1, when getting there. Entrance is through the side of the building furthest... More

I loved this place! I'm into impressive buildings and this exceeded my expectations. A kitsch, bombastic, over the top interior. There is an entry charge (50 yuan I think) but I was surprised how much you actually get to see. Well worth it if architecture is your thing.

Visited last May. This was an unexpected additional option on our tour. We had visited Tiananmen Square early and had time before the Forbidden City so we had a quick tour - brilliant. The inside is astonishing - elegant halls - ornately decorate rooms. The great hall is exactly that - very opulent ceilings - hall is huge. It had... More

Having read other reviews, it is evidents that you dont get to see the Congrees Room every time..because all we saw was the main front hall.... it was certainly big, it wasn't crowded (which is in itself quite an achievement) and it has an impressive view over the square. There is an intersting short film about the construction. As a... More

I've been into the truly "Great" Hall twice so far, the first time being years ago for a show and this May for a business conference. I was truly stunned at its beauty once into the building. After the security check, I followed the steam of the people to the Golden Hall directly. Many attendees with me included were fascinated... More
