This two-story arched wooden structure once held 25 drums which, in combination with bells in the Bell Tower, were once used to indicate the time of day. Only one drum remains today, which is beaten four times a day for 15 minutes.

This was part of our guided tour and it was worth looking at. It is not as impressive as other sites we had seen but is an important part of the whole historical package.

I love NAN LUO GU XIANG/Bell and Drum Tower!!) Historical tower that represents the older part of Beijing! Over on the streets are restaurants and markets! BeiHai/HouHai is also on the west side of the drum tower! My favourite place for a Fri nightout party here particularly the bars of the Nan Luo Gu Xiang/Hutong!) Simply an unique blend of... More

The tower is closed down after 5 pm. It is accessible via Metro line 8. Get out from the metro at the Shichahai station and then it will be in front of you....Impressive tower and worth to walk around. The monument is in a so called hutong are, and you can find a lot of interesting shops here. Some local... More

We hadn't visited in any other cities Bell and Drum Towers so wanted to make sure we visited them in Beijing and we are so pleased we did. We went up the Drum Tower first. The steps are steep and narrow and just a case of head down, take it steady and keep going. We visited during off peak -... More

The two towers are a good point to see ancient part of Beijing. I like them but especially because of the area around the towers. Small stores, old bakery really beautiful.

We got here by accident at the same time with the latest drumming of the day. And what a great accident it was! If you only have chance to go up, go. The stairs are steep and the tower is high to climg even for a healthy person but it is worth it, trust me.

Be forewarned, if you don't like a high steep set of stairs, this is not the place to go. Once you get to the top, it is worth it. Excellent views of the surrounding city and hutongs. I loved the view from the drum tower. Be sure to catch the drum ceremonies ( 2 hour intervals I believe?).

Situated in Hutong area which brings special atmosphere - in our opinion these 2 towers werent impressive at all. There is huge contruction yard around them so its very noisy in surroundings.
