The Hutong is a gem in Beijing. You can really immerse yourself in the Chinese culture through their programs and cooking classes. Located in an authentic Beijing hutong, just getting there is an experience. Make this a place on your Beijing travel schedule.

A 2-3 hour cooking class (in English) with an entertaining and knowledgable "guide/chef" and several other individuals. We learned how to cook Sichuan dishes with shrimp and chicken. The whole class was fun and the food was amazing. You can order drinks while you sit and cook. The Huton is in a good location, make sure to go up to... More

I took this class whilst in Beijing and it was fantastic. The atmosphere was great and our chef Miya was extremely friendly, patient and clear. She took the time to go around and showed us individually the different methods of making the dumplings. She also had an assistant who was a little bee working in the shadow, making sure we... More

Loved the private Hutong tour! Jeff, our comical tour guide, shared a wealth of knowledge about each historical location complete with costume changes and intriguing "characters." Great way to see this part of the city! Definitely one of the highlights of my trip.

I was at The Hutong for a cooking class (Dumpling Revolution), which was really amazing. Our instructor Sophia was super cool; she was very enthusiastic – her passion was infectious. She created a great atmosphere and entertained questions which is always a bonus being in a very relaxing environment. We made dumplings – not the traditional Chinese ones but a... More

I attended a Chinese cooking class in the evening of 16 April. Our excellent chef was Miya she spoke very good English and Chinese and explained things very well. We all chopped the ingredients and took turns stir frying and cooking. The class gave a good insight into Chinese cooking, we did three dishes in 2 1/2 hours. We cooked... More

I recently took two cooking classes at the Hutong, both were absolutely great. Learning how to make "la mian" or pulled noodles and how to cook some great Yunnan dishes, were a lot of fun, tasted great and leave you with something nice to make when you move back to your european hometown. Thank you Hutong team for such a... More
