MUST SEE!!! I read the Badaling section is like the Disneyland version, but regardless, is essential to a trip to Beijing. Once on the wall, there's two directions to hike. One is flatter and is more open to hike but is PACKED with tourists. The other is steeper, but with a fraction of the tourists, and from the high point,... More

A highlight of our trip was visiting the Wall -a section called Gubeikou, with the Beijing Hikers group- it combined our love of 4-5 hours decent hiking ,being with a small group of all nationalities and ages and we had the Wall to ourselves as its away from the usual tourist sections. The tour was well organised ,lots of fun... More

This is truly a major landmark. We drove there but I would recommend the train as the traffic was awful. We took the cable car to the wall and then spent about 1.5 hours walking back down the wall to the carpark. It is very steep in parts and gives you some great views of the wall as it snakes... More

One of man's great achievements it is just one of those things that should be on every bucket list. The footing can be very uneven and the slopes steep with irregularly spaced steps in some places. Be very careful one woman on our tour fell and broke her right lower arm. More

Amazing views, make sure you have a fresh memory card for all the pictures you're going to take. Bring at least two bottles of water, sun block, and a hat. Also, if you want to buy something from the shops, be prepared to haggle. More

We have visited the Wall at Mutianyu and also at Badaling and would rate Mutianyu as easier to walk, broader platforms. The steps were more even and not as steep as at Badaling. Badaling is more visibly impressive with the mountains around but gets crowded. Best to visit in the morning to try and beat the tour buses. More
