We had booked a 5 day hike with James but unfortunately had to cut it down to 2 days. He was very accommodating to our needs and re-planned to suit, inluding both restored and unrestored sections. James is very knowledgeable about the areas we went to and makes sure you are safe and happy. If you're looking for a private... More

Before I give review let me share a little background about myself. I grow up in China and was transplanted to US in my 20s. June 2014, I went back to visit with my teenage son who was born and raised in America. Have said that, my intention was to show my son the original Great Wall of China. I... More

Myself and three other women went with James to the Jiankou section of the Wall for the 2-day, 1 night hike. We had an absolutely amazing time. The scenery was stunning and it was incredible to see the Wall in its unrestored breathtaking beauty. James was fantastic - we felt we could trust him (and had to - some sections... More

Just returned from trip to Beijing which included a private tour with James (Hiking the Wall) on Jiankou. We chose James based on reviews on TripAdivsor. A sound choice. James knows the wall like the back of his hand which is essential because some sections are steep and a little unstable. While those with a fear of heights might feel... More

We took the day trip to the Jiankou section of the wall with James. He picked us up on time from our hotel and deposited in a remote area to begin our hike. We could not have been more thrilled to find we were the only hikers on this section of the wall which has not been restored in 450+... More

We booked the 2 day overnight tour after having seen the restored wall at Badaling and Mutinayu several times. This IS the real Great Wall! Jame picked us up at our hotel and we drove directly to the Jiankou section of the Wall. There are several signs posted saying thst this section of the Wall si closed to the public,... More

James took me on a 2 day overnight camping trip on the Jiankou section. This section (like pretty much all of the Wall apart from the full-on tourist spots) hasn't been maintained for 450 years! We only saw 2 other people for the whole 2 days. He is an outstanding guide who clearly has a job that he thoroughly loves.... More

James was friendly, engaging and encouraging as we negotiated the often difficult terrain in this largely untended section of the Wall. He was very knowledgeable and was happy to share his passion for the Wall whenever we needed a break. Highly recommended!

Took the 1.5 day hike with James. Great experience, amazing views, James looked after us really well, and gave us lots of info and stories about the Great Wall. There were very few people on that section of the Wall, even though it was a major holiday (May 1st), which allowed us to take outstanding pictures. Highly recommended!

I did the 1.5 day hike on the wall. I have so many amazing memories from China, but this experience will stay with me for a long time. James was such an accommodating guide that he even drove me to the train station afterwards, even though it was out of his way. Anyone looking for an adventure and a taste... More
