I and my wife took this train from Lhasa down to Xining. We tranvelled in April and there was nothing else along the way other than snow and glacier; yet, still amazing. The view might be more lifely when the weather gets warmer. As you might be noticed, it does not allow passengers to get out of the train when... More

We tried to book our train journey from Beijing to Lhasa but were told they could only confirm our tickets 10 days prior to travel and they retained the rights to sell off the spare bunks in our cabin without a refund (we booked a private cabin with four bunks for two of us). So we decided to try booking... More

I have to say it is not easy to book train tickets from Beijing to Lhasa, only 35 soft sleeper berths, My god. I was made this trip with the help of CITS, katherine and I used a soft sleeper berth room. I recommend CITS, the website is www.tibettravel.org. More

I flew into Lhasa from Beijing rather than vice versa in the event there was any flight disruption leaving Lhasa due to weather, and the understanding that it was easier to arrange outward tickets. I went through Snow Lion tours that purchased the ticket for me in advance. I was in a 4 birth soft sleeper with the train departing... More

I read about the recommendation of stopping over at Xining and planned our trip that way. Indeed that is an extremely good route as the altitude in Xining prepared our bodies for Lhasa. Just that by doing that it makes getting soft sleeper train ticket even more difficult as the trains come from Beijing/Shanghai/Chengdu. We were on T23 and only... More

In August we took our 3 children (ages 8,13,16) on the 44 hour train trip from Beijing to Lhasa. We booked a soft sleeper cabin (a must) as it has a door and some privacy. Our experience started at a very crowded hectic train st. in Beijing. Once on board we got settled into our cabin (my husband slept in... More

We took the train 44 hours from Lhasa to Chengdu with soft bed. It was really interesting experience. We have go through more than 4800M high mountain. The view in Tibet side was great! One thing need to mention is : their restaurant has no English menu. Staffs are unable to speak in English. Therefore, its a bit problem for... More

This high altitude train is pressurized like an airplane but smoking is allowed so for the 27 hours from Lhasa to Lanzhou, you will smoke the second hand smoke. While sleeping it is especially challenging since you are startled awake with the sensation of suffocating. The views are sensational and it is unique. Your luggage goes into the sleeper with... My wife, sister and brother in law shared a soft sleeper compartment from Beijing to Lhasa in late September 2010. I've been on many Chinese trains before and my wife is Chinese so I had a good idea what to expect. For my relatives, this being their first time in China, it was really a new experience! For those who... More
