Ol Kinyei Conservancy is 18,700 acres of wilderness which belongs to a Maasai community who leased it to Gamewatchers Safaris and Porini Camps for it to be set aside for the purposes of wildlife conservation. Ol Kinyei Conservancy is home to only one permanent camp, the Porini Mara Camp which accommodates a maximum of only 12 guests at any given time - making this not only an exclusive experience but one that respects the principles of eco-tourism. Located within the Serengeti-Mara eco-system, Ol Kinyei is renowned for its unspoilt and breathtaking scenery with diverse terrain offering on one hand open savannah plains and rolling hills on the other.

I visited in mid-June following the 'long rains' and everywhere was lush green. The wildebeest had arrived in large numbers and the usual animal population was also present. The guides took me to a part of the conservancy (Ol Kinyei 2) I had not been to previously and it was evident by the lack of vehicle tracks that I could... More

An exclusive conservancy used only by Gamewatchers (www.porini.com) Teeming with game - See TA reviews for Porini Mara Camp, They also have a cheaper Adventure Camping option Some of the key benefits are: 1. excellent wildlife viewing with the ability to get close to the game - real off roading in 4x4's and not mini busses and amazing wildlife. 2.... Tons of game and no other vehicles, this how all safaris should be done. Unspoilt wilderness and a real feeling of not being part of a crowd. Paradise.

This is a relatively small conservancy but has four of the Big Five. Most importantly you have a very good chance get to see of of them without having to jostle for space with many other mini buses.

As soon as we entered, we were greeted by 100s of wildebeests! After 10 more minutes of driving, we came across a family of 17 elephants, including babies. It leaves you in awe.

We stayed at the Porini Mara camp, which is the only accomodation in the conservancy, This quiet and peaceful setting is home to a high concentration of lions and cheetahs. Early morning game drives showed us how beautiful Kenya can be as the sun rises, and our afternoon drives were great for spotting big cats. We could not have been... More

The title says it all. The conservancy has an abundance of wildlife but you will not see any crowds, only the guests of the Porini Camps. I highly recommend visiting the conservancies around the Masai Mara rather than the National Reserve itself.

Although we didn't get to see a leopard we saw lots of lions, cheetahs and other animals too! the more you travel around the more familiar you get with the different areas in the conservancy. Guides get to know the hangouts of the wildlife which makes it great for spotting them...day and night. The night drives are also good.

My stay in Ol Kinyei Conservancy at the Porini camp was amazing in every way. Incredible game sightings (cheetah with cubs, lions, watching hyenas devour a dead wildebeast, and so much more), superb camp, knowledgeable Maasai guides,... Stay here, not in the Mara itself. They'll take you into the Mara reserve one day if you want, but then spend the... More
