Ngong means "knuckles" in Maa, or so I'm told. The many rounded peaks (are there really seven of them?) reach up over 2,000 meters, giving some grand vistas out over the Rift Valley on one side, and the city of Nairobi on the other. They say some of the great Kenyan runners train by running the trail that hits all... More

Facts about the place! The hike up Ngong Hills starts from Ngong town at the northern foot of the hills 1961m above sea level, and traverses the whole range to the southern end at Kona Baridi. This takes about 4 to 5 hour to complete, depending on fitness levels. The first kilometer from Ngong Police Station is a gradual ascent... More

The Ngong Hills are famous thanks to Karen Blixen's "farm in Africa at the foot of the Ngong Hills," but they stand on their own as a gorgeous place to see the countryside and look out over Nairobi any time. Beautiful rolling hills create a contrast to the other areas - like NE Province where it's desert-like conditions make everything dry and dusty.

This is the closest place you can get a view from Nairobi. The drive to the top requires a 4x4. Its windy, so be prepared. Safety is also sometimes a concern. Go with a group if you can. It makes for a very nice picnic spot if you can find a spot that's not so windy.
