Of all the sites, more colour remains here than anywhere else. Also a little more ordinary life is depicted.

I don' tknow if this gets visited very often but you really should go here. Even after the sublime beauty of the Valley of the Kings tomb paintings I was absolutely blown away by the rich colour and naive paintings in these tombs. These are really up close and personal experiences. If you don't like small spaces- don't go here.... More

An interesting glimpse of the life of the artists who worked on the tombs in the Valley of the Kings and the Valley of the Queens. I was disappointed that we weren't allowed to walk around the village and it was difficult to get a good impression of what it would have been like to walk around its streets from... More

This is a fascinating place where the people who built the tombs of the Valleys of the Kings and Queens lived. The outlines of the village make it very easy to imagine the people living there and you can see the path they took over the hill - probably grumbling - to work every day. Really interesting. but this place is fantastic! I hadn't seen it before, and it beat some of the other more 'tourist trail' places hands down for me. The village is fascinating and tombs are amazingly clear. The steps are steep, so not for those with dodgy knees, etc

Deir el-Medina is mainly known as being the residence of the artisans that built the tombs in the Valley of the Kings. The town itself has been fully excavated and the walls of the houses are preserved to a height of approximately one metre. While it is not possible to walk amongst the ruins of the town itself, the civic... More
