I visit the Giza site in 1971 and again in Dec 2009 and was astonished at the poor administrative oversight being exercised. Development continues to encroach on the site which is unfortunate. However, the trash evident everywhere is just appalling. There are bottles, cans and an infinite number of plastic bags lodged everywhere. There are roads and parking lots very... more
Staying in a hotel very close to the Pyramids of Giza, we decided to walk, however within the 10 minute walk, we were stopped at least 15 times by taxi drivers and locals, all telling us that it was too far to walk and the site itself would be too big to walk around and we would need a taxi.... more
Highly recommend Ramses Tours in Cairo. They picked us up at the ship early, had a great driver, and a terrific English-speaking guide, who was a PhD candidate. Also arranged a camel-ride with reputable individuals and that was a memorable (!) experience. Also, there were only two of us and it was wonderful to have the personal tour of the... more
Our guide took us firstly to the entrance of the Pyramids and organized all our tickets. The Giza plateau is located on the west bank of the Nile River approx 12kms from Cairo. It takes approx 30 minutes by car through the hectic Cairo traffic. Our guide walked us around the main Pyramid and briefly told us a short history... more

We... more
Our trip to Egypt was a lifelong wish after promising my wife I'd take her somewhere other than Vegas or Disneyland about 22+ years ago. We started the day getting on a bus in Alexandria for the 2 hour ride to the Cairo and Giza Plateau. Out tour guide was a collegiate level educator who spent the busride giving us... more
We travelled by overnight bus from Sharm El Sheikh to Giza and back. The pyramids are a must-see! Simly amazing! more
we visited the Pyramids at Giza early november. we didn't want to be tied down with a tour company so we organised our own tour. This presented a lot of problems. firstly we arranged a taxi from our hotel (Intercontinental Citystars) to the pyramids, we thought we had a good deal at 60LE all in. but the taxi driver diverted... more
Travelled to Egypt September 2009 and visited Pyramids. Whilst they are stunning and magnificent structures and have to be seen to believed the vultures around them are not! Because we are friendly and not use to the bribery etc in our country we got sucked in!! We had hired a car with a guide but this still didn't protect us!... more
