We visited the area after seeing the Pyramids at Giza and we were impressed by all that Saqqara had to offer. The Imhotep Museum was very interesting and informative. The tombs and pyramid itself were striking. The pyramid itself was undergoing restoration so we were unable to go inside but the scaffolding that was on the outside looked great! It... More

It's out of the way so not too many tourists but you really feel like you're living the life of an explorer. They are still digging up jewels/mummies from this area so it's exciting to see the work that they are doing! More

saw it with hardly 10people around ,everything was quite and bidness was way down. They were having the Arab spring politically but it was an Arab winter bidnesswise. There was so much to see, everyone was so polite ,never a harsh word to any foreigner..We lucked out when going down the tunnel, seeing the Ancient boat..there was no muscling around fighting influx of... If going to Saqqara do it before seeing the "big" traditional sites such as the Giza pyramids, Abu Simbel and tmples such as Edfy and Karnak. It helps set some historical context, is older, and to be honest will seem underwhelming after seeing the other sites. In it's own right though is very interesting to see the step pyramid and... Amazing views and opportunities to ride on a camel or a horse drawn buggy. Must see in Cairo. Well worth a trip. Avoid the traders by not speaking to them and wear sunglasses to avoid eye contact! More

It is the first pyramid built by king Djoser... It's 60LE entrance fee but students get a discount.. Also do remember there are many other tombs nearby n don forget to visit them... It is 10mins drive from Memphis and around 45 mins drive from Giza...I would sincerely suggest hiring a car from hotel itself.. Avoid cabs as thy will... More

What an awesome piece in the middle of the desert. A local guide is invaluable when travelling in Egypt. The history of the place and views of the crooked pyramid are great. More

It is 60 L.E. to enter the compound that houses the Step Pyramid. Warning: There were tons of people who wanted money from me via selling trinkets or by becoming my impromptu guides, especially around the tombs in the area. Giza was also bad for people wanting to fleece me, but I felt Saqqara was the worst. I found it... More

The step pyramid is so different from the others one associates with Cairo and well worth a visit. There is a nearby temple to be seen with a museum and its a very nice visit for those interested / There is a government run coffee shop and the english cake is good and there are good toilet facilities too.
