Having awakened early, I found myself excited about the day’s adventure that lay ahead. The usual morning activities were accomplished smoothly, to include a filling breakfast at my hostel. As I stepped out into the early morning sunlight, I found that my pre-planned taxi was waiting for me as I had anticipated. My enthusiasm continued to swell. My driver returned... more

While the site of the Giza Pyramids is breath-taking, going inside the pyramids at Sakkara was my favorite. Things to know: When you go inside the pyramids, if you do not have a guide, there will be a man asking to see your ticket. He is a fraud. He will show you around and point out things of importance (you... more

If you see nothing, see the wall painting as the nearby tombs. They look modern and feature real people as if they had been here yesterday. I was overwhelmed at the similarities despite the time differences. 3D textured imagines with fine detail such as wigs. They even feature images of animals and children fighting and a goat with diarrhoea! The... more

The necropolis at Saqqara is a short drive from Cairo and is particularly interesting because you see sand and desert when you look in one direction and lush green palms and sugar cane when you look toward the Nile. Egypt is a country of contrasts and nowhere is it more evident than at this site. I visited Saqqara with a... more

You can't go to Egypt and not see the pyramids, period. Our hotel organized a driver for us, and they dropped us off in front of a stable so we could take a camel tour around the site. We had not asked for this, and weren't exactly sure what we were getting ourselves into. Half our group took the camel... more

I agree with the rating we went around these tombs which took a good 4 hours but was well worth it.See the Giza Pyramids from the outside, take in the sound and light there too but save time to go into the wonderfully decorated and older tombs in saqqara. The step pyramid was after all the model for all the others.... more

We spent a few hours at Saqqara with our tour guide Rasha. Actual seeing the Step Pyramid is worth the trip alone. Other things to do are the various tombs that are scattered around. Teti's Pyramid is a must. Not too hard to descend into and beautiful inscriptions on the walls and ceilings. There is also a new Imhotep Museum... more

We took a day tour with Rasha that included these pyramids. While the pyramids of Giza are in the middle of a bustling city, these are in the countryside. I enjoyed the drive in the air-conditioned van going to Saqqara as much as the pyramids themselves. The countryside is absolutely beautiful, with fields of palm trees. We also saw real... more

As you leave the city of Cairo, you also leave behind the pollution, noise, hustle and bustle. Saqqara means Sugar Cane and as you leave the city you start to see the farms of Sugar Cane, Dates, Tea and other crops. The Step Pyramid was the starting point for the Pyramids as we know them and is over 5100 years... more
