I visited this museum in July 2009 after finding it on the net. It was formerly the home of Major Gayer Anderson during the early 1900's and holds his collection of furniture, artwork, antiquities and fabulous oriental decor. Gayer Anderson Museum is well worth a visit, 2 renovated Islamic Houses, which are attached to the walls of Ibn Touloun Mosque. Ideal to vist the the Mosque and Museum in the same visit, The houses were used in one of the old James Bond film (sorry forgot which one). This was an absolute gem we saw on our last day in Cairo. It was once 2 houses (built in the 16th and 17th centuries) which was converted into a single house, restored and decorated by a British Major, John Gayer-Anderson, who lived there for 7 years in the 1930s and 40s.
