Most tour groups stop here for a couple of hours. If you like museums, plan on at least four hours here. Yes, it's old, and a much larger modern one is expected to be ready in 2012, but there is so much to see here that if you just stick with your tour guide, you will miss out on much.... more

I hate being so negative, but there were so many things that disappointed me about this museum. First, you cannot bring your cameras. You check them in the front. Next, I have never needed a guide at a museum. I can read the descriptions on the pieces I find interesting or pieces that are important and learn from that. Not... more

The most disappointing shore excursion we ever took on any cruise was Egypt. The ship, the Rotterdam, arrived in Alexandria on October 15th, 2009 at about 1 am, presumably for the immigration officials to examine and stamp our passport, so that they would be ready well before we were to board our tour buses at 7:30 am. I don't know... more

We scheduled a 3-4 hour visit with a guide at the end of our 7 day tour that included all of the traditional sights: pyramids, Valley of the Kings, Philae Temple and Luxor. We got there before the opening as we were told it would be crowded, but had no idea that hundreds of people would be waiting for admission... more

I do recommend it to those interested in Egyptian treasures but don't expect you're entering the British Museum. It'a pity that the Egyptian authorities don't maintain it. I hope that the new museum they are building is better. It's poorly lit, only a handful of labels exist, only 1 room is air conditioned and I honestly cannot imagine the negative... more

Do not miss this museum. You will be spoilt for choice. There is so much there. A magnificent statue of a pharonic family group which is so relevent today despite being over 2000 years old. The star of the show is the Tutankhamun collection which is so outstanding it could almost make you cry. I thought I'd died and gone... more

It was such a thrill for me to see all the fantastic artifacts available at this museum. After seeing bits and pieces of Egyptian history spread throughout other museums, it was really cool to be in Egypt seeing such a full collection from ancient times. I loved all of it and was surprised how fascinating the mummies were to me.... more

I am well travlled and have visited most of the world famous museums but the Cairo Museum tops them all including my previous favorite, the Archeological Museum in Istanbul. I was on a tour and we had only 3 1/2 alocated for the museum--I could have used three days easily. Fortunately we had an excellent guide, Fatma, who showed us... more

It's amazing too how much and so well preserved some of these things are, it's incredible... Yes, some of it's boring and some of it is repeatative but if you're not interested in the statues... more

The Egyptian Museum was a great experience, despite all the crowds, expense and general hassle of the place. The collection was amazing, all displayed in a somewhat poorly labelled manner. People who are used to modern museums might be put off to the set-up, but I found it somehow appealing in its old school way of doing things. Sure, the... more
