It was such a thrill for me to see all the fantastic artifacts available at this museum. After seeing bits and pieces of Egyptian history spread throughout other museums, it was really cool to be in Egypt seeing such a full collection from ancient times. I loved all of it and was surprised how fascinating the mummies were to me.... more

I am well travlled and have visited most of the world famous museums but the Cairo Museum tops them all including my previous favorite, the Archeological Museum in Istanbul. I was on a tour and we had only 3 1/2 alocated for the museum--I could have used three days easily. Fortunately we had an excellent guide, Fatma, who showed us... more

It's amazing too how much and so well preserved some of these things are, it's incredible... Yes, some of it's boring and some of it is repeatative but if you're not interested in the statues... more

The Egyptian Museum was a great experience, despite all the crowds, expense and general hassle of the place. The collection was amazing, all displayed in a somewhat poorly labelled manner. People who are used to modern museums might be put off to the set-up, but I found it somehow appealing in its old school way of doing things. Sure, the... more

The world renowned collection of the Egyptian Museum displays 120,000 of Egypt’s archeological treasures (and a reported 200,000 more in storage). Visitors can see up close objects like the gold funerary mask of the boy king Tutankhamen, royal mummies of the pharaohs, the Narmer palette, the Old Kingdom statues of Prince Rahotep and Nofret, and the splendid furnishings in the... more

this museum is amazing. it is very busy though so maybe it is best to make two visits to the museum. to see Tutenkarmen's mask and coffins and the tombs that he was buried in just blew me away. and to see how the egyptians preserved their animals - esp. the crocodiles is amazing. no photos - flash or non... more

Contrary to some of the negative reviews on here, I really enjoyed it. There was so much to see, we only managed to see a small part of the extensive collection. It was great. I didn't think it was shabby in any way. We went to the mummies section, which was pretty good except the majority of them didn't have... more

There were lots of ups and lots of downs. The ups would include how their are tons of ancient eghyptian artifacts that are amazing and well organized. A bit of advice is dont pay the extra $20 usd to go in to the mummy room it was soooo not worth it. The downs would be the mummy room, not all... more

I just visited Cairo Museum on November 1, 2008. Here is a quick summary of what to expect: 1.) $20 USD to enter and another $20 USD to see mummy room with 6-8 bodies. 2.) Hot and no air conditioning for most of museum and lots of people 3.) Dirty and dusty look to whole place and terrible lack of... more

It was worth going just to say that I have been but that is as far as it goes for me. I had much greater expectation than what was in the end the reality. It is a tired museum dark and dusty that needs serious updating. I was not drawn to this comprehensive collection at all, I just lazily walked... more
