Meteki Cathedral is a very nice example of a Georgian cathedral. It is located on the rim of the river. At night it is illuminated and a great sight from the south side.

After a long bus ride out in the countryside we arrived at this landmark cathedral, together with a number of religious visitors. Atmosphere was mesmerizing!

Even though the church was under reconstruction at the time I visited it, one could see how nice it is. Metekhi Cathedral is situated in, in my opinion, the most beautiful spot in Tbilisi and according to what our guide told us the history of the very spot where the church was built is very impressive. So, visit it and... More

As we were told it is one of oldest church in the area. It was under renovation and we were not permitted to go inside. It is located in a very nice place of the city and overlooks the nice river of Tbilisi.

The cathedral stands at a very strategic spot, around the bend of the river atop a hill, in the old town. The statue of Kind Vakhtang Gorgasali looms in front of the cathedral. The inside of the cathedral was cool and quiet that offered a respite to us from the rising heat outside.

It was the first church we visited in our trip to Georgia. It is unfortunate that due to the repair and reconstruction that it was closed. Next to the church is a monument to Georgian King Vakhtang Gorgasali, as with his name connected with the history of the church and the castle. Still want to say that the church in... More
