We went there to exchange some US to Kyat at the best rate at the bank (than at hotel or jewelry shop or local vendor). The money exchanger is in front of Bogyoke Aung san Market opposite to the building called "super one" (air-conditioned supermarket). The old-fashioned building make us feel upset, maybe they have to consider more to renovate... More

No doubt it was huge, but as a male I couldnt seem to find anything I'd like to buy. Mainly jewellery shops, ornament souvenirs, footwear shops, and cloths. Shops that sold cheap everyday products like shirts were non existent. More

Bogyoke Aung San Market, aka by its colonial name of Scott Market, is a large sprawling market in down-town Yangon built in 1926. It is reputed to have over 2,000 stalls, but unlike most Asian markets, it keeps office hours and closes at 1700 hours – definitely no evening shopping here. The market stalls are arranged in a few main... More

Please be careful about its opening hour. It is closed every monday. I heard from some comments in WEB saying that it opens 7 days a week. This is NOT correct. More

The market was brilliant - it is well set out and not too crowded. The central section is wide and with the breeze was quite cool. Great for souvenirs and things are well priced. No pressure to buy and negotiating is defintely expected but good prices are easily achieved and fair. They don't start with ridiculously high prices as in... More

From clothes, to jewels and even puppies for sale- these markets have everything (including a Pidgeon baby store selling EVERY baby product you could want). As with all Asian markets, it's busy, crowded and big! But worth the trip, even just for a look. More

Wow, this market was awesome! After a couple weeks travelling around Myanmar we came back here to pick up all the knick knacks we wanted. Found some really great deals on the metal figurines that you see all over the country and also on the art. You can also get jewellery, jade, clothing, wood and of course, all the tacky... More

As many have already said and I shall too, it's the ultimate one stop shop into buying something to remember your trip by. It's here that there are hoards of vendors (many though of which have very similar things), but whom are selling everything from women and men's longyis, handicrafts, jewelry, the traditional Myanmar harp (called the Saung Gauk), and... I spent less than 30 minutes here. It was indeed a big place with a big number of stalls. But many stalls carried the same type of goods and after a while it got repetitious and boring. If you have something specific to buy e.g. Myanmese skirt, I have little doubt that you can probably find it here. But if... More

Had just about everything. Lots of handicrafts, cheap clothes (both traditional and foreign) and massive amounts of jewellery. I'm not into jewellery but I spent some time looking. Looked up western prices later and Yangon's prices seemed a fraction of that. E.g., $850 for a silver bracelet with 24 huge deep blue sapphires. The market is also the place for... More
