We ended up not buying here, finding the prices much higher than the traders near Bogyoke market. There are plenty of honest traders at the market, just shop carefully and look around a lot before you buy, comparing prices.

Although we had heard rumours that the best pieces in the Myanmar Gems Museum, (eg world's largest star sapphire, worlds largest rough ruby, world's largest natural pearl) had been moved to the new Myanmar capital at Naypyidaw, we wanted to double check so we did go to the Museum. However upon enquiring at the Ticket Desk on the 4th Floor,...

If you have time to kill before catching airplane you can swing by this, but it is not impressive. This is not NYC's Museum of Natural History's gem collection - not by a long shot

The Gems Museum sales shops are chock a block full from expensive gems to the less expensive semi-precious. There is a great selection for every pocketbook. The salespeople are helpful and will tell you, if you ask, whether the rubies are African or Burmese. It certainly is an overload, so be prepared!

Some very nice gems and jewellery on sale here. Jade carvings are very good and resonably priced.

I have been to this museum several times over the past years and I always keep it on my to do list. Myanmar is a country rich in gems and this museum located on the top floor of a jewelry sales building shows quite a few beauties! We say imperial jade, carvings of jade tea cups, 20 carat star rubies...

We did not go in after checking that the best items have been removed to the new capital. Decided not to spend $5 to go in. The museum is one floor, the other three being gem shops.
