It cost a large amount of money to travel here either by private taxi or tour operator. It then cost roughly $30 aud (2500 vatu) to enter the island. Although there were plenty of fish, the coral is mostly dead. Partly due, I suspect, to being trampled on by ignorant tourists. The environment is too fragile and the water too... More

Even though the weather was overcast, we had a brilliant day. Easy to get to from town, regular ferries across and the best snorkelling and value for money around. Don't miss it.

Visited the island whilst being on a cruise with P & O. Never been to vanuatu before. After paying an exuberant amount to be transported across bay in a dilapidated little tinny, found out that there was also an entry fee to enter the island beach area. A little pricey just to go for a swim and snorkel with own... More

Hideaway Island, Vanuatu Our small family landed in Vanuatu close to midnight and came out of the passport control area with little idea of what to expect. Our main plan was that we would stay on Hideaway Island in a bungalow and do 6 dives together. We were greeted at the airport by Glen and his girlfriend and driven towards... More

Amazing place to spend a day when visiting Vanuatu. The snorkling is better than anywhere else in Port Vila and the tropical fish are at your feet as you enter the water. We went from town by cab, you board the ferry that takes you across to the island, when you arrive at the jetty there is a kiosk to... More

Being so close to Port Vila makes Hideaway Island one of the easiest (and most popular) snorkelling destinations in Vanuatu. Our journey there was done by boat direct from Port Vila - the price wasn't the cheapest but sometimes it pays to pay for the experience. Once on the island you walk through and pay to access the island and... More

I haven't done much snorkelling so hideaway was good as you just launch yourself off the beach and there you are - some nice corals, and quite a lot of fish! There is probably better snorkelling elsewhere but I was happy! I didn't have reef shoes and managed OK although the coral beach is pretty tough on your feet. The... More

Hideaway was expensive, didn't offer credit on facilities (like the other islands), coral dead and few fish. Think they depend on location being easy and very commercial. Wouldn't recommend at all.

we were surprised to find that they charge seperate for snorkel, flippers, mask, etc. the food was good and the day tripper facilities were good also. The snorkeling is okay, we found iririki as good and cheaper, considering you get to re-deem the fair over on the boat at restaurants on iririki. Reef shoes needed on beach as a lot... More

I think we'll have to come back in 20 years to see if the Reserve is improving at all. It's all a bit sad really. However the cafe had great food!
