This was a wonderful day out with 2 teenage boys. We spent too long in the water through and didn't reapply our sunscreen so we got badly burnt! Was it our fault? or the fault of the amazing marine life??? The underwater post office was a bit of fun - we were able to post ourselves a 'water proof' post... More

The fee to go is 1250 VT, excepti if you go after 16:00 pm that it will be free, but the shop for hiring snorkels will be close. Normally you can hire one snorkel for 600 VT. For me one of the best spots in Efate to do snorkel, there are a lot of fish and coral, definitely a must.

We took a taxi-van here from Port Vila for 300 per person. The Island entry includes the boat over, so all very straight forward. We really weren't expecting the snorkelling to be as good as it was - as soon as we put on our masks (while standing quite close to shore) we were able to see schools of fish.... More

Even though it is no longer up to spectacular standard Hideaway still offers good value for money for a family. Lots for young kids to do from the underwater post office to just snorkelling and enjoying the fish life. Bring your own snorkelling gear with you or hire on the island. Restaurant offers kid friendly meals and all seem to... More

The kids loved picking up the turtles and feeding the giant turtles, however the facilities for the animals are so old and run down and they don't seem to be caring for them properly (the giant turtles and sharks in a small rock pool being fed only pawpaw). The best thing about this place was the snorkling we did at... More

We got off the Carnival Legend and negotiated a taxi to take us to the Cascade Waterfalls and Hideaway Island and then back to the dock - booked all day and shared price with another family. (pay at the end of trip) Arrived at shore to go to Hideaway. Little boat/tinny was free to get over there. Lots of young... More

This is a great introduction to snorkelling. Terrific to bring young children to observe marine life. Unfortunately, the coral close to the shoreline - as expected - is white, with little marine life. You need to snorkel out past the pontoon to see a little more. The island is terrific to spend the day, it has tables, sun-lounges, shady spots... More

Even if you're not a snorkeler or a scuba diver you must go to Hideaway Island. It's just a short bus trip out of Port Vila (try to take buses everywhere much cheaper and the locals are great), and opposite Mele village. Every time we go to Vila we have at least a whole day here. You can lay on... More

We visited here in Dec 2014 on a cruise. It's a great little place to snorkel, despite the poor weather we spent a bit of time here. It is a coral island, not sand; so you don't get too dirty! There is an underwater post office, that is pretty unique and you snorkel down to post your waterproof card. There... More
