If you are looking for adventure and some good trekking, then you will love going into the Mt Benbow crater. You can either scramble down the crater with no ropes (like we did) or you can do it with a rope (less thrilling but safer). The lava pit is so big and active that you can hear the lava from... Seeing this volcano in it's raw, untouched glory was incredible. The first day was spent hiking to the camp site, a short spell small before heading up Mount Benbow. I visited Ambrym as part of a three day hike across the twin volcanoes Mount Benbow & Mt Marum spending two nights camping on top of these amazing active volcanoes.
