Nice church, but in ugly surroundings

The church is nice, in baroque stile, but the whole city is dirty - people throw trash to the street and nobody cleans that.

The cathedral is a pleasant, peaceful environment, whose chief attraction is the extensive and finely wrought silver work at the altar.

I agree with the reviews which say this is a plain church, with problematic opening hours, in an insalubrious area We did manage to see inside, it was on a Sunday, but they were about to close the building. In all honestly , you get more from the outside of the building than the inside. And yes the area is... More

Latin America is home to a lot of beautiful churches and they usually keep their doors open. This one is simple, it's located in a trashed area (but we felt pretty safe there, so it's just the garbage on the streets, the people were friendly) and it was closed without any schedule posted.

This does not have the appeal of cathedrals you see in other Latin American capitals. A few feet in front of it seems to be a car park. There's also a favela just beyond with much of the population spilling over into the "park" in front of the car park in front of the cathedral.

The Metropolitan Cathedral is a simple church in the central part of Asuncion. It was open the Saturday morning we visited, but many areas were inaccessible in preparation for Pope Francis' visit in July. The cathedral interior was not ornate with a beautifully painted flat roof and a modern altar which faces the people. Worth a visit if you're in... More

Not like a cathedral. Simple but pleasant. Renovating it a little at the moment as Pope Francis will visit in mid July.

I attended here a Christmas concert on December 2014; and found the cathedral beautiful and worth visiting. Unfortunately it was not possible the next time I went, which was during the Holy Week. It was closed, there was nobody to give us information as to the opening hours. Que pena.

On a Saturday morning the Cathedral was closed and nobody in the sorroundings (includiong a Pólice Station), knew the hours of masses. The place did not look safe.
