Check out Cickovía and then bring it home to your own city. Mexico City also closes streets to cars and in both cities it's great to how people relate without cars... :-)

The streets are reclaimed by bikers and pedestrians on Sundays. It truly is wonderful to walk around town without being too bothered by motorized vehicles all over the place. It's like a new city - locals make the best of their Sundays by walking around with their kids, biking from A to B, skating and skeelering. Very tranquil and positive... More

What a wonderful idea. Major streets are shut down for pedestrians, bicyclists, skateboarders, etc. Bogota feels like a much smaller city on Sundays.

If you like walking to explore new cities, this is a cool way to do it! You can rent bikes (for free, but you have to return them in 30 minutes), but we walked and it was great! There are tons of fruit stands selling mangos and pineapples and juices throughout. It's a really popular thing for Bogota locals, so... More

Bogota's Ciclovia takes place every Sunday. The streets in the central area are only open to bicyclists, runners and walkers so be aware of this if you need to get a taxi.

One of my favorite things about Bogotá (and also Medellín) is Ciclovía on Sundays and holidays. The air in the city is clean without so many cars on the streets, and it's a fun and safe way to get exercise or walk the dog. People of all ages and abilities are out during Ciclovía. Since I don't have a bike... More

The main street through Bogota closes just for Ciclovia. I rented a bike from a little tour company and had a guide show stop and show us attractions and talk about Colombian history. It was nice, a good activity to do for half a day or however long you want to ride for. The streets are filled with others doing... More

The ciclovia is a fantastic day out. There are people of all ages, dressed for all weathers out enjoying the traffic free streets. As a wheeler I love it. Bogota sidewalks are not the most accessible, so take advantage of the streets!

This is a great way to go around the city, feel the vibe and breath with no cars involved! The ciclovía allows you to get to all kind of places (historical, natural, commercial...) only by walking or riding a bicycle on a safe and relaxed environment.

If you plan to spend a Sunday in Bogota, bring your sports clothes and shoes and enjoy a great walk or run in the city. You can also rent a bike...
