never found it open. seems to be in repair. it is close to Souq Waqif, but there was no way of getting in, neither in the afternoon or at night. No note, no explanation.

doha fort is just few miles away from souk waqif, and together they can give you a good taste of old qatar.

Compared to other forts in the region (Bahrain for example), Doha Fort doesn't seem like too much from the outside. It is pretty much surrounded by Souk Waqaf and there is construction going on right up to the walls of it. There is a door facing the souk, but it looks closed as in hasn't been open for some time.... More

We were too late to go inside the day we visited but the outside was very untidy with all sorts of junk in front of the entrance. This part of the souk was quiet and empty. Next door there was a compound for the camels which could be seen easily.

I always go to Doha Fort early morning during weekends to watch the sunrise. It is also a good place to do morning exercise.

It's in the middle of town, it's by the main souq, and it reminds you that although Qatar is an energy giant today, it's roots are totally Arabanian.

This is where the ancient meets the modern ... well preserved, well worth visiting. Time spent there is time well spent.
