Visit and watch the locals at work

Just visit and watch the locals at work buying and selling fish. Watch the catch taken from the boat to the market area and then sold. Great hour spent here

Whilst visiting the capital city of Oman, Muscat, we wanted to see something authentic and headed to the Mutrah Fish Market. Adjacent to it a new and larger market is being built and I do not think it will have the charm of this small market yet lively early in the morning. Would recommend a visit whilst visiting Mutrah.

I walked around to see all the vendors displaying all their fish for sale. I saw so many types of fish, and watched some of the vendors cutting the fish for customers. Be careful when you are walking to not trip on the small puddles of water.

I got up early to visit the fish market and get some fascinating photographs. My taxi driver told me on arrival that during Ramadan the early morning trade is slower with more activity in the afternoon. Nethertheless at 7.30am there was enough activity to take in our this market operates. Small boats arrive at the dock and within minutes their... More

We loved wandering among the stalls to see what was available and how the market operated. The sellers were very friendly and happy to answer questions and allow photos (but ask first) We didnt go first thing in the morning, it would be much busier then, but we were surprised at the types of seafood for sale including a stack... So many fish! If you are lucky you will see a hammerhead shark amongst others. All dispayed in such clean surroundings - a fascinating visit.

I enjoy the different fish being offered and to experience a daily market. I disliked the smell some times

Tons of selection but get here early, it's packed out by 10:00 a.m. and you won't get parking. It's close to everything so make a day out of it.

If market means selling fish off the floor then this is the place. Modern items such as hygenic marble slabs that can be washed down are not always favoured by the fishermen who cannot afford such expenses, therfore their catch is placed on the floor and sold from there. Photgraphically it harks back to earlier days, and in some suburbs... More
