As a female travelling alone this was a welcoming neighborhood. Cafes are open during the day as well as in the evenings. Lively and I felt compleely safe.

You should go to this street if you want to go to a restaurant, cafe, bar, pub or if you want to go shopping or buy a book. You can find anything on this street.

This is just a normal shopping area. Since such streets and shopping areas are plenty available in my country it did not amaze me.

Hamra street is one of Lebanon's famous areas. Full of all sort of shops, cafe, and restaurant. It's very amusing to stroll there, though its not a cheap place to shop.

Hamra street is in the Hamra block where most of the life happens, at least for foreigners, but it still blends nicely with the local life. This is where the hotels are, shops and coffee shops and lovely cafes and night clubs. Also, this is where you have one exchange desk (can't really call it office) with the best exchange... More

What a disappointment, I was thinking "here is the spirit of Beirut.. gathered in one street"... but Hamra has now lost all of its charm and the shopping experience is not interesting. The only place to go is the famous Librairie Antoire (I advise them to open a second branch in Mar Mikhael district now). Not far: you must go... More
