Mainly people know hamra street for it's special small shops and the crowded avenues, but it also has an access to big hospitals and medical centers, hotels and restaurants. It is open usually all day long with pubs at night. It would be better if you go by service or taxi because few parkings are available.

If you are thinking of the old colorful Hamra street... forget it. Now it is a busy street with lots of traffic. The shops are nothing special and the cafes are common.

There is no pretense with Hamra. Unlike Beirut Souks which is within the reach of only the upper class, Hamra is where the local locals go shopping. This area is full of buzz with shopkeepers selling their wares and people jostling to get through. There are many quaint little cafes and restaurants, or just takeaway places. A good place for... Hamra Street is in the Christian area of Beirut and contains coffee shops, restaurants, and upscale shopping. It is worth spending some time just walking and then stopping for a coffee and watching the people walk by.

This was the place to be in the sixties. It had eveything that Beirut could boast. It paid a huge price during the civil war and most businesses fled to other locations. The past few years have seen the re-emergence of Hamra street as a modern hip area full of shopping places, restaurants, coffee shops... with its proximity to the... More
