after walking inside the city, it's a wonderful way to see it "from the other side" we enjoyed the walk immensly, but be ready for a fair but of up and down stairs and it's a loooong walk if you are planning to go all the way around

One entry point of the Ramparts walk is near the exit of the Tower of David museum. We walked the Ramparts on our own and enjoyed taking our time and stopping to take pictures of the different parts of Jerusalem that you can see from this very very very high spot. While there are railings, the pathways are very narrow...

I did the Ramparts walk with my two boys in April 2012. It was during Passover and Easter and the Old City was jampacked with huge crowds everywhere. We did the walk late in the afternoon and it was fabulous. For one thing it allowed us to escape the crowds and see the Old City from a totally different perspective....

for a good orientation to the old city, this from-above perspective is great. you traverse the four quarters in a way which allows you to understand their intricate, winding passageways and individual characters.
exiting at damascus gate will give you a chance to explore the very much alive muslim quarter.

Take a walk atop the ancient city walls of Jerusalem. Climb up to the ramparts and see the city from a completely different angle. As you walk atop the ramparts you can see in to the Old City and its different neighborhoods, while you look out to the new city and see how far it's grown in its 150 years....
