A little out-of-the-way, this very ancient monastery is chiefly worth visiting for its wonderful old floor mosaic, and the for the slightly leafy peaceful ambience of its cloister. Definitely worth combining with the Israel Museum, which is not too distant.

Very good, full of history and interesting place to go, especially in the summer as there is a wonderful park nearby.

Monastery built by Georgians in 11th C. on the site were the tree of the Holy cross was grown. Famous Georgian 12th C poet Shota Rustaveli's only fresco is preserved in the maiun church of the Monastery.

The monastery was built in the 11th century by Georgians, over earlier remenants of Byzantine buildings. It was sold to the Greek Orthodox church in the 17th century.
