Set amidst a dense forest on a hilltop, this excellently maintained attraction provided the right balance between religion and tourist importance. Well worth the visit as an extension to Ephesus.

I found The Virgin Marys house to be a peaceful and very lovely experience. It was my mother who wanted to go along to see it, I didn't really know what to expect. We went to the house and said prayers and she picked up a lovely rosary beads and prayer book from the stall. There is a lovely place... More

There is church service (ayin, ibadet) on weekdays 6pm. The guard lied to us that it started at 6:30. We waited till 6:15 and the ticket office closed, and let us in. So we need not pay 15TL per person for entrance. Tourists make people unscrupulous, for people to pay to attend church service. I guess Jesus would have kicked... More

Lovely chapel on the foundation of the place that is believed to be Mary's last place of residence. Many people visit and it can get crowed but usually moves quickly. Head covering is required in the chapel.

Pure spiritual energy in the air. Restful place. It does represent a lot for us Catholics. The little chapel overwhelms us with joy and devotion. Mary's house itself is humble, as expected, and pretty small. The place where the 'bed' used to be is now an altar for prayers. In this site, you can also leave a message or requests... More

You can just imagine being here 2000 years ago - once you have the long wait to view the chapel behind you.

There is no evidence that this site was where the Virgin Mary lived, and the sceptic in me immediately thought when seeing it that was remarkably "well preserved". (The current house was built in the modern era). It is indeed a peaceful and beautiful site, however, and as our guide stated, "Well, maybe it is..could be..you never know."
