Make sure to have some tea overlooking the beautiful Bosphorus in addition to the art! When you are inside, one tends to forget the museum is right along the water, and the view is just lovely. The website is always a good place to go first to make sure the museum is open on the day you are going, and... More

Istanbul modern museum is by the Bosphorus in the City center (Tophane, Karaköy). You can check their program on the touch screen boards which are located all around the city. Don't forget to check the beautiful cafe, have a Turkish coffee while enjoying the great view. Every Thursday is public day, that means free admission.

Something I didn't see on Trip Advisor, but when I went there, they said I needed to buy a ticket even though it was Thursday.

Loved Istanbul Modern on the banks of the Bosphorus. Unlike the ancient mosques and palaces, this was relatively uncrowded when I visited. The art is wonderful, diverse and large scale. Much of it concerns the repression of women so very interesting in a country that is undergoing social conflict. Great restaurant on the balcony overlooking the river.

This proves that Istanbul is more than just mosques! Also, great place to grab lunch on the water. Like most old cities, you'll realize that all mosques/churches/museums are the same. Well, the Instanbul Modern is such a pleasant departure that talks about life in the vibrant and multilayered city in so many media. Unlike other modern museums where there's a... More

Very diverse and creative, but like other reviewers, I was also impressed with the photo gallery. Humane and powerful photographs. Ordinary people of Turkey's recent history and present deserve not less attention than the glamorous imperial past.

I am not a big fan of modern art, but I enjoy visiting modern galleries. I do believe it expresses well the spirit of the nation. Very creative, very powerfull and touching. Especially the photo galleries depict the very rare moments of rural Turkey from places you would unlikely to travel yourself... to me though it gave a very strong... More

Eczacıbaşı family thanks to the contributions and hard-working curators, this Istanbul's first and only museum of Modern Art opened its doors in December 2004. A useful library, exhibition, photo gallery, sculpture courtyard, cinema, café and gift shop overlooking the Bosphorus with renovated old docks in Karaköy district, is home. This private museum of contemporary Turkish art on a lot of... More

Istanbul Modern is not a huge museum but is always confronting and inspiring with its exhibitions. You can see not just west European but also many middle-eastern and eastern European originated modern art which is quite unusual and attractive to the eye. Well looked after Istanbulites are proud of their modern museum.

The museum is quite big and it offers a variety of permanent and temporary exhibitions. In Turkey artists are very happy to experiment with new techniques and media and in this museum the video installations are outstanding! Amazing view from the Cafeteria (in which you can drink a very good cappuccino and some prosecco from Italy)!
