Can't praise this place enough .Excellent introduction to modern art forms in Turkey.Cutting edge exhibitions with lots going on and in most cases excellent English translations.Ditto to everything good that has been said in previous reviews.Great restaurant/cafe with unequalled views over the Bosphorous.I cannot believe that they allow those monstrous cruise ships to berth in front of it.Luckily we were... It doesn't looked like a museum, but it was astonishing. Lots of interesting of modern art, but only Turkish. Would have been nice if there was some international art, which I was expecting. Make sure you visit the place in the morning, as the queue gets longer every hour. Its a bit hard to find, as the place is at... More

This modern art museum, by Tophane tram stop, is small but very good. There was a wide range of art, which was accessible and not pretentious. Very aesthetically pleasing and impressive, in a nice venue next to the port for the cruise ships. Restaurant there is expensive. Outside there is a cute row of bars, cafes, and restaurants, and next... More

Was well beyond expectations. Some great exhibitions. Nice space. Good restaurant / cafe with great views across Bosphorous. Only criticism is 'security staff' could be more friendly!! :-)

This what I look for in modern art museum - works that are stimulating, addressing modern issues in sometimes witty, sometimes arresting ways. Most importantly of all for me is that you can see a unique national response to common artistic themes. There are a few international artists represented here but I enjoyed discovering new names in the art world... More

Istanbul Modern is a wonderful space for modern art with wonderful light, until...........a giant cruise liner berths beside it. This really shouldn't be allowed and I hope the gallery management are objecting strongly. The city should have more pride in one of their great assets than to allow this to happen. Many of the pictures and installations are of high... More

Istanbul Modern is more than a modern art gallery. There are attractions for the children as well. If you want to spend a few hours with your young children, that's the place to go. It also has a very good restaurant with the panorama of the Bosphorus and the Topkapi Palace provided that no monster passenger boat is moored right... More

This is one of the better modern art galleries, with an electic mix of media, including sculpture, photography, painting, film and audio. It makes for a really interesting few hours out of the hustle and bustle of Istanbul's hectic traffic. And to make things better, the Modern's restaurant is excellent - probably the best views in city from the terrace,... More

We have been to the Istanbul Modern many times, most recently a few days ago. The art selection is pretty amazing, given that their artists are relatively unknown outside of the country. But the restaurant is truly amazing: this time we had to eat indoors because it was too crowded on the deck, but usually we eat outside and the... More

If you want to have a break from the Byzantine and Ottoman sights and get some insight into Modern Turkish art visit Istanbul Modern. There are some foreign artists featured, but the bulk of the exhibition is Turkish art. Short movies and temporary exhibits are also shown, as are feature films (check times and days). This is unrelated, but 100... More
