A good, varied and non-pretentious modern art gallery, showcasing Turkey's modern artists (though is lacking in younger artists) as well as some contemporary artists from overseas. The cafe is good too.

Great display of modern Turkish art that provides a synthesis of contemporary production. Do visit the restaurant, beautiful view of the Bosphorus and very good Turkish dishes.

Fantastic building and wonderful displays. Pity that the entrance is still in such a mess. The displays included many wonderful modern artists on two levels.

This ART museum is my top list in my bucket list, but I felt a little disappointed by its collection. It was not so many compared to other art museums I visited in my own countries, or other countries. But the view of sea side is great. The food served in the restaurant is expensive.

A great place to visit! Especially if you have been soaking up the magnificent historic mosques and museums, the Modern provides an excellent contrast and an introduction to talented 20/21st C artists.

The Istanbul Modern is a worthwhile stop on your Istanbul itinerary and should include lunch on a non cruise ship day. It has a great cafe with a fantastic view of the Bosphorus that most unfortunately is frequently cut off by a cruise ship being docked right in front as was the case the day we visited. The modern collection... More

This was my first visit to the Istanbul Modern Museum. What a pleasure! Some extremely thought provoking pieces on display! Much to please the senses... Easy to access the museum via the tram, and it has the added bonus to take in some stunning views of the Bosphorus!

The Istanbul Modern was an inspiring and surprising experience. As an art educator, I went to the Gallery to see what they offered..... and was blown away! Apart from the astounding architecture of the gallery itself, which has huge windows overlooking the Bosphorus, the artwork is carefully chosen and superbly displayed. I would strongly suggest that anyone who has even... More

Although we go often (or did until they closed for remodeling) to the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, this was simply amazing. The collection is incredible, but it is equally exciting to see artists that are never displayed in the western art museum. We spent about an hour and a half and wished that we had a little more... Staying in Karakoy

Neighborhood Profile
Sitting pretty with an age-old air about it, Karakoy is situated on the European side of the Bosphorus at the mouth of the Golden Horn. Perhaps the city’s most historically significant area, it’s currently one of the most happening parts of town as well. Here street vendors and alfresco fish restaurants line the banks of the Horn where the views of major attractions across the water rival Karakoy’s own key attractions, such as the iconic 14th century Galata Tower and the Museum of Modern Art. A major hub for local and international waterborne traffic, Istanbul’s commercial and maritime heritage remains as relevant and evident as ever in Karakoy. Commuter ferries mingle with luxury cruise liners at its busy port, ensuring a continuously cosmopolitan flow of people..
