We visited Istanbul for the first time last month. We wanted to take in most of the sights as well as feel the pulse within the city through its neighborhood, traditions, food and culture. Eda was wonderful in guiding us through the whole experience. I was able to communicate with her prior to the trip to set up the plans... More

I only had a very brief stay in Istanbul (2 nights) and wanted to make the most of my one full day in the city. This was my first visit (I have wanted to visit this historic city for a long time) and as I have a particular interest in Byzantine history, the one-day tour showing some very key historical... A friend and I recently booked Eda for a day long shopping trip in the Grand Bazaar while visiting Istanbul. I’d been to the Grand Bazaar before and mostly spent the day wandering around aimlessly, buying things I didn’t particularly like or want. So, I was quite excited to go with a guide who could provide an insider, curated experience.... More

We were blown away by our tour with Eda and Istanbulite. A fun, youthful personality with volumes of knowledge on an ancient and magnificent city. In addition to the grand sites of Istanbul, Eda shows you a more intimate and human perspective along the way by sharing local secrets few tourists get to see (including her favorite gyro spot). This... More

I just spent two weeks in Turkey with my 22 year old son as a graduation trip which was planned by Eda. She advised us on our itinerary, which was perfect, hired knowledgable guides in each location, and booked incredible hotels and activities. It was truly a fantastic trip in a magical country. Eda provided local flavor while making sure... More

Just back from a wonderful long weekend in Istanbul with Eda as our guide for 2 days. Eda's knowledge of the city itself, its history and culture is outstanding. She was enthusiastic throughout the 2 days and never tired of our questions. I would highly recommend Eda and Istanbulite to anyone planning a trip to Istanbul.

We had a wonderful two day tour of the historical sights of Istanbul with Eda. Eda is extremely knowledgeable and made the tour very interesting with her expertise and insights into the history and culture of Istanbul. I highly recommend her services.

I was in Istanbul for a high profile business meeting and I had the pleasure to meet Eda and to make use of Istanbulite's services. Eda, who has founded the firm, provides support for foreigners visiting Istanbul and she did a great job guiding our group through the city in a very interesting way, outside of the usual touristic approach.... We spent a wonderful day with our guide Eda Sokmen, who was fun, knowledgeable and well organized. We only had a short time available to cover a lot of ground, and Eda got us everywhere we wanted to go, including a wonderful lunch in the middle. We were all impressed by her knowledge, but especially her knowledge of Byzantium mosaics,... More

Had a wonderful private walking tour of Old Town Istanbul this past Thursday (May 21, 2015) with Eda Sokmen. It was a perfect overview of the major sites. We were staying at the Four Seasons Sultanahmet (specatular hotel!) and Eda met us there - exactly on time. We walked, had lunch, toured a bit more and ended up back at... More

Staying in Sisli

Neighborhood Profile
Sisli
For much of Istanbul’s history, Sisli and the area just north of Taksim Square were open countryside used mostly as hunting grounds. These days, Sisli and its chic streets are considered the very heart of contemporary Istanbuli life, where an epicenter of fashion and a thriving business district meet to create an expressly “downtown” feel. Though largely a residential neighborhood, luxury hotels, fine dining restaurants, and upscale shops abound with many of them situated inside or nearby Cevahir Istanbul, the biggest shopping mall in Europe and second biggest urban shopping mall in the world. Shopaholics and fashionistas travel from near and far to browse the area's mix of major global brand items and creations by popular Turkish designers.
