Can't say enough good things about our half day tour of the Jewish community. Saw three synagogues, the neighborhood of the first Sephardic immigrants from Spain, and enjoyed the Jewish museum as well. Our guide, Alp, was super knowledgeable and really helped us understand the community, its challenges and the color and flavor of Jewish history in Turkey. Highly recommend... More

Whenever I have clients visiting Istanbul, my tour company of choice is Istanbul Life. They do an outstanding Jewish Heritage Tour, covering all the historically important as well as current sites of interest. My clients have always been thrilled with their guides! I also use Istanbul Life for general Istanbul tours and again, they offer a quality of service which... More

Excellent tour. We have done Jewish Heritage tours in many cities and found this tour comparable. We were fortunate to have a Jewish guide, who shared with us the history and its impact in a personal way. We are interested in both the historical and current way of life. If other touring of Istanbul is being done, a 1/2 day tour... More

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed this full-day tour. It was so special to experience the important Jewish heritage of Istanbul. It was extremely easy to book through Hakan and Alp was most knowledgeable about the sites we visited and Istanbul's Jewish community. Highlights were the morning minyan at the Askenazic synagogue and an informative chat with a father and... More

Loved our guide and experience with Alp! Great day, very knowledgable and approachable. Walked by one of the synagogues and would never have seen it without the benefit of the tour. Hidden Gem!

I was worried that someone would not come to the ship since we docked so late, but everything went as smooth as silk. They ask for payment at the end of the tour, btw. John (spelled Can Gunay) was knowledgable of the Jewish life and synagogues and spoke excellent English. The tea and sweets included were a nice touch. Highly... More

We had a lovely half day tour with Alp of Jewish Istanbul. We booked at the last moment the evening before and our tour was handled beautifully. Right on time we were picked up at our hotel and whisked away to the Ashkenazi synagogue where we enjoyed Shabbat morning services. My husband and his father were given aliyot and we... More

Staying in Karakoy

Neighborhood Profile
Karakoy
Sitting pretty with an age-old air about it, Karakoy is situated on the European side of the Bosphorus at the mouth of the Golden Horn. Perhaps the city’s most historically significant area, it’s currently one of the most happening parts of town as well. Here street vendors and alfresco fish restaurants line the banks of the Horn where the views of major attractions across the water rival Karakoy’s own key attractions, such as the iconic 14th century Galata Tower and the Museum of Modern Art. A major hub for local and international waterborne traffic, Istanbul’s commercial and maritime heritage remains as relevant and evident as ever in Karakoy. Commuter ferries mingle with luxury cruise liners at its busy port, ensuring a continuously cosmopolitan flow of people..
