Motif Collecion is lovely small shop Between Hagia Sophia and Blue Mosque just behind the Roxalana bath. Shopping in Istanbul is overwhelming but in Motif became a real festival for me. i could never beleive that i could see that many unique carpets in a such small place. Each piece which i seen were more beautiful than others. Both owners Hidir and... I think the previous reviews have said pretty much everything about the place. The shopping experience was outstanding with the super confident owner Hidir. Quality of the carpets and kilims were much beyond anywhere else. Hidir was very helpful and with very high confident. From his first word you could understand that he knows about carpets very well. I had... More

This was my first trip to Istanbul and I wanted to make sure I brought back real Turkish kilims. Istanbul has numerous options but I was not 100% sure about the quality and the price of kilims. I searched online for some trust worthy people and shops, also where I can learn about the kilim which I will be buying.... More

So glad to find Motif Collection and avoid the other shops. I was tired of the people telling me the Blue Mosque was closed for prayers when it wasn't, their uncle and or family carpet shops were near, and so on. Actually I was in two other carpet shops before stopping in Motif. I didn't like the carpets there or... More

I visited Motif Collection after researching a lot on the web about where to buy a decent carpet / kilim. This place had phenomenal reviews and any place that was so highly rated had to be good. I was in Istanbul for a limited time and I literally got free 25 minutes before closing time. We spoke to a local... More

Hamit and his shop are true gems of Istanbul. They are honest and upfront, no heckling over prices everyone gets a fair deal and a quality product. Other carpet locations have to barter with you because they typically pay a 35% commission to whomever refers you (mostly 'tour guides' of some sort). This is not the case with the Hamit... More

Paid a visit to this shop, after my wife went online to check out carpet shop in Sultanahmet area. The whole buying experience was so pleasant. Carefully explaining the history of the carpet that he showed. Not a single time the guy (i forgot his name) was being pushy selling hard the carpet. Even after we walked away to have... More

We wanted a specific rug for our hallway and could not find one ready made that suited our requirements. I found Motif Collection on Tripadvisor before our trip to Turkey and found the store while touring the Old City. Quality and condition of items are great. Hamit and his staff are very professional and helpful throughout the entire sales process.... More

I am collecting hand made carpets through almost all my life. If you have knowledge about Anatolian carpets, it is obvious that you can notice that it is really difficult to find nice ones. Or if you find them, they are so expensive or being so broken that they need to be repaired. Nowadays, you find only new carpets in... More

Staying in Sultanahmet

Neighborhood Profile
Sultanahmet
With so many unmissable attractions within a mere stroll of each other – and all set around the site of an ancient Byzantine hippodrome – Sultanahmet is an overwhelmingly popular tourist destination, and a prime location for visitors to be wowed on a truly epic scale. Beyond the wonders of the Blue Mosque, the Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, and more, this relatively small area of Istanbul somehow manages to retain an air of peace and calm. It offers visitors a significantly less celebrated but nonetheless pleasant network of quaint lanes and side streets, majestic panoramas of the Bosphorus, and an impressive assortment of accommodation options for all budgets and tastes.
