The Other Tour offers unique one day cultural experiences in Istanbul. Our mission is to provide curious, open minded travelers with the opportunity to discover how Turkish people live and thrive in Istanbul. Away from typical tourist attractions, we dive deep into Istanbul (a city of over 16 million people) to immerse ourselves in the lives of local residents. During this guided adventure our Turkish neighbors open their hearts and homes to us, sharing with us their customs and traditions.

If you are travelling because it's what you are supposed to do, do NOT take this tour. Save your money for TGIFridays in Istanbul If you are curious, want to explore and stretch your knowledge, be amazed and confounded, then the Other Tour is for you! I have been travelling extensively for 30 years and just found out that I've... More

Th Other Tour already convinced me by its professionally made website, so I went to our meeting point with high expectations, which, I have to say, were topped. Since I am in my twenties and so were the friends that accompanied me it was just refreshing to have a young tourguide bursting with enegry, ideas and wit. It felt like... More

I went on 'The Other Tour' a day after I did a tour of the old town, after I already started to doubt the cities magic cause everything in the old town was so overcrowded and only about money, Fethi and his 'The Other Tour'-Team came along. So meeting at the Dolmabahce clocktower to 'see all the tourists and then... More

This tour is based on one individual – Fethi –he is intelligence and engaging young man who is attempting to provide a different experience of Istanbul. He can also be rude, insensitive and is a walking ball of testosterone. My best advice is it to consider this tour as street theatre where you are not a passive observer but the... More

Like advertised, the tour was different than any I've had before. I was the only guest and Fethi took me on his scooter. We toured districts I would have otherwise never got to see. Fethi is very knowledgeable about his city and the contrasting parts of Istanbul you get see are great. I especially appreciated seeing the Kurdish, the highly... More

If you want to be a tourist, do not do this trip. If you want a wonderfully interesting and fun experience as a temporary local. Fethi is a remarkably interesting and lively young man (emphasis on the "young"—he exudes that makes me feel old, and I'm five years his junior) and his irreverence (something I highly enjoyed but probably not... I booked "the Other Tour" for my husband and myself before we left Australia. We were already going to be doing a tour of Istanbul a few days later with our tour group and thought this would be a good way to see something other than the main sites. We were not disappointed. Fehti met us on time and off... More

On my two week trip through turkey, Istanbul was my last stop. I worked my way from sunny, touristy Antalya up to the 21 metropol Istanbul and first was totally overwhelmed by the size it. Of course, the central areas of the city u can easily work yourself through as a tourist. But I didn’t want and couldn’t believe that... More

Due to the son storm we had to interrupt our tour and agreed to continue the next day. However, we already pre-payed for the full tour. For some reason Fethi, the tour leader, did not show up the next day and did not answer our phone calls. A few hours later he send an email saying he is sick and... More

Hello everyone. We believe that this review is written by someone who did NOT actually join the tour. I met Murat, Fethi's brother who couldn't lead the tour because Fethi was sick. We were three, one couple and me. After spent three hours together, walked through nice places and streets that tourists don't know, and had nice breakfast together, we were suddenly only two, Murat and me. The couple decided suddenly to leave the tour. So we continued... More

Staying in Besiktas

Neighborhood Profile
Besiktas
In Besiktas, skyscrapers compete with palaces for space in an upscale vista replete with hilly green parkland filling in the margins. Step into this rather wealthy neighborhood and discover a rich mix of opportunities to shop, dine, and be entertained. For folks in search of urban buzz, not to mention a constant reminder of just how important Istanbul’s waterways are to its rich history, there's the frenetic Besiktas ferry terminal or the city’s most vibrant fish market to explore. For a timeout of metropolitan proportions, head to the bucolic Yildiz Park or the chic Bosphorus-side fishing village of Ortakoy. Attractions such as the grandiose Dolmabahce Palace and a bevy of other stately residences await admiration. To be sure, this large and not overly touristy swath of Istanbul yields plenty of pleasure for all.
