That’s where Culinary Backstreets’ Culinary Walks come in. In order to help you explore the world’s gastro-capitals and get off these cities’ eaten path, CB is offering (with selected partners) guided culinary walks in some of the cities we cover, starting with Istanbul, Athens, Barcelona, and Shanghai. Our culinary walks are designed to lead visitors on an eating binge through a city’s lesser-seen historic side streets and authentic markets, taking in countless hard-to-find culinary gems and, in between bites, a select number of untouristed monuments. « less

Our walk on May 27 was with Connie, a delightful German ex-pat who has been in Istanbul for 9 years. I thought we may be unhappy that we didn't get a "real" Turk as a guide but Connie was very knowledgable on Turkish life and culture and had no language problem with the shopkeepers we visited. Most of the other... More

We booked the Kebab Crawl for our last night in Istanbul, and what a perfect way to end our trip! We went to a section of Istanbul which we would not have seen otherwise, and got a sense of what it is like to live in the city. Our guide was friendly and articulate about the food, history and culture... More

I did this tour on my first morning in Istanbul and it's been a great way to become familiar with not only some of the area of the old city, but the food and culture of Turkish Istanbul. The tour guide (Angelis in my case) was fantastic - knowledgeable, enthusiastic and really paid attention to everyone in our group of... More

As a food professional myself, I was really looking forward to our Beygolu walking tour. First, I want to mention how flexible Istanbul Eats was with our changing schedule. I had to cancel and rebook at the last minute, and they were great about helping us with our intinerary. We ended up being able to walk last Saturday with the... More

Had a great time with my family on the Athens walk with Despina and the Kebab Krawl in Istanbul with Gokcen. Both guides were friendly and knowledgeable. All stops that were made on both walks were great and we were completely stuffed by the end of each walk. I would not hesitate booking another walk with these guys if I'm... More

My 23 year old daughter and I are NY foodies, so when I read about this foodie walking walking tour which would take us to both sides of the Bosphorus, I immediately signed up! I thought it would be a nice way to spend our first day in Istanbul and would give us the lay of the land. The experience... More

This was a delicious, educational, and fun tour of Beygolu! I would recommend this to anyone. What a terrific way to learn about the city and culture while tasting so many different foods. Angelis the guide was very knowledgeable and very very fun! A wonderful day well worth the money!

A great way to get an idea of Turkish cuisine. We did it early in our trip which was great since we were able to use our new found knowledge during the rest of the trip. Learning some Turkish history was also fun.

We had the pleasure of joining Angelis on a tour of the Asian side of Istanbul. We learned so much more than we thought we would. He was so knowledgeable about the historical influences of different parts of Europe on the food of Turkey. We got to experience Turkish food from so many different angles. We enjoyed every minute of... More

All the reviews praising this company and their tours are spot on. Four of us took the "The Old City" tour and absolutely loved it. Megan, our guide was knowledgable, witty and lots of fun, we had a wonderful day and cannot recommend this tour highly enough. Book . . . .you will not be disappointed!
