We did this sunset trip as past off the Big Bus tours and there were good informative commentary. Then on another day took one of the affordable TL12, one hour boat trips from opposite the spice market, and although no commentary we had a lovely trip with lots of photo opportunities. Wonderful sightseeing to do when your feet cannot walk... More

The ride is about 1/12 hrs. We started at light, watched to sunset over a mosque and saw all the buildings lite up on our way home. It got cold once the sun went down so even though you can sit inside still breezy so dress warm. It really helped to understand the path from the Mediterranean Sea to the... More

Make sure you take a fast ferry to Bostanci for shopping, a slow ferry to Anadolu Kavagi to eat fish and a speed boat or slow boat to the Asian side and visit one of the many excellent restaurants. This way you will get a flavour of Istanbul as well as a flavour of the cuisine.

This was a great way to see both sides of the European side plus the Asian side. Istanbul is huge! If you drive back over the bridge, there is the sign "Welcome to Europe" which is cool.

Take the public ferry. It will take you almost up to the Black Sea. It stops at the town of Anadolu Kavagi for about 2-3 hours. You can have lunch and climb up to the fort for some great views of the Bosphous. The whole trip takes about 5-6 hours. It is a public ferry. So it is cheap. 25TL for... More

Take a walk down to the harbor and there are a number of cruises that go up and down the river. It's fairly cheap, they sell some snacks on board and you can see some very cool buildings and see Istanbul from the water. Watch out for the hustlers on the docks that claim they will give you some great... More

A must do if you have the time. Use the Sehar Hatlari cruise boats if you can - they are much cheaper than the private tours for the same view. Interesting landmarks along the strait, including some lovely quaint ones.

My friend and I spend a wonderful, if but chilly, two hours sailing up, then down, the Bospherus one late afternoon in November. Our boat was small and open-air which allowed us a splendid view of both banks, with a cabin below. Tea and coffee were served and most of our fellow travellers were Turkish. Although most couldn't speak English... More

Very friendly and welcoming people in Istanbul. Clean and orderly city. Heavily guarded by police everywhere. We toured the European and Asian sides in our own small coach with driver and an excellent English-speaking professional guide: Ms Emi Ulygun (emiuygun_74@hotmail.com), we really got value for money with regard to information and sites.
