I am no history buff but I love old architecture and old streets and Istanbul has both old and new with a great tram system that links easily with the funicular railway to give easy access to all the city. We got the tram and funicular up to Taksim Square and then walked for hours visiting the Galata Tower, back... More

Loved shopping in The Grand Bazaar and spice market. It's also worth a walk across the bridge to the Asian side. It was a lot cleaner than I thought and we didn't see any flies. People were friendly but a bit pushy when trying to get you to buy or eat in their restaurant - you kind of get used... More

I recommend the Rick Steve's book walk; it hits all the sights and gives geat insights as well. Don't mind the hawkers, and don't get involved in conversations, most want to sell you something. It's all good natured, though.

All the sights Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia, Galata Tower, Church at Chora, Grand Bazaar, Spice Market etc etc as well as the excellent food this clean, friendly city is certainly worth a visit. An assault on all your senses. Public transport is outstanding with trams, buses, trains and metro covering most areas of Istanbul. (Get an Istanbulkart - inexpensive way... More

Everything is walking distance.... So much to see and do. Get a map of attractions and start at the Bosphorus and work your way from Topkapi to Hagia, to the cisterns to the Blue Mosque.... Then go to the grand bazaar.... All so close to each other. Absolutely fantastic

What a city, it was wonderful. I will go back. There is so much to see. The trams are very reasonable and efficient but do get very crowded. I am in my late sixties and never went further than one stop without someone giving me there seat. I felt very safe.

Dolmabahce Palace, Topkapi Palace, Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque and many countless places are worth to visit. Istanbul is a great city for history, culture, food, romantic views and many other reasons. It is safe and very modern. Actually this city is the only city in the world rests in two continents Europe and Asia. Culture is a good combination of... More
