Third visit to Istanbul. Great, vibrant city! Lots of history, amazing historic sites, fun shopping, beautiful views, fabulous food, easy and cheap transportation (taxi, ferry across Bosporus and Golden Horn and Metro system. Didn't try buses, but they are all over also) People are nice and helpful, and enough speak English to make getting around pretty easy.

The areas are touristy, but safe, beautiful, and a must to visit. The Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia, and Topkapi Palace are very close together. Get a Museum Pass (85 Lira for 72 hours) to get included entrance to most sites, and save a lot of time and money.

Only in Rome itself (where we live), is it possible to see such a range of major monuments -- eg. the Church of Hagia Sofia (6th century) and the Blue Mosque (16th century) stand facing one another across a park just round the corner from the Hotel.

Old city has tons of good places to visit, food excellent, some idiots tries to rob you, but if you go to quite stores or government or municipal book stores, you can get very reasonable priced souvenirs. If you don`t need to don`t buy anything. Just enjoy the view.

I loved my stay in Istanbul and this is one place I would want to visit again. Topkapi Palace, Dolmabache Palace,Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque, Basilica Cistern, Eyup, Grand Bazaar, Spice bazaar, Arasta Bazaar are all worth visiting. The European side and the Asian side, the ferry rides, the cobblestone streets, loving people ,the ambiance at night makes me so nostalgic.... More
