The building, commissioned by Sultan Suleyman and designed by the Turkish architect Mimar Sinan, was built in 1557. It features dramatic archways and domes and is decorated with elaborate marble inlay. It is the only hamam in Istanbul where men and women bathe together. « less

The Good: Building from the 16th century Mixed so you can go with your partner (guys by themselves can forget it) The experience is pretty authentic You get the bathing suit for the ladies (as your bikini might get trashed ladies)- boys its a dishtowel- just fine. THE NOT SO GOOD When the place gets crowded it must be a... More

Wonderful. Beautiful. Clean. Fabulous experience!! Separate men's and women's sides. Very luxurious. Fragrant "red bud" oil used in products. Really a great part of the experience of being in Turkey! More

If you want to take your hamam with a member of the opposite sex you have no choice but to go to Sulemaniye in Istanbul. It was not an unpleasant experience but a very touristy one and we felt very much that we were being processed as if we were on a 'conveyor belt'. Having had numerous Morrocan and Turkish... More

Quite typical from Turkey, I went to the famous public baths with no much interest. We were told tha the "Suleymaniye Hamami" is the only one in which male and females are together. For 35€uros you get a massage of 20 minutes aprox and a very good experience. Indeed, I regret that I did not have time to have a... More

This hamam is unusual in that it only accepts mixed couples and the bathing itself is mixed - so it's aimed at tourists rather than the locals. Don't go expecting byzantine tiles, as although the main room is nicely furnished with attractive lockable wooden changing rooms, the steam room itself is plain whitewash above the marble, and the cooling-off room... Having spent 2 months in Istanbul, we saved going to this Hamam for our last day. I was needlessly concerned it would be too touristy. To be clear, the business is focused on tourists, but they do it very very well. If you want to chat with the locals, find an off the beaten track tea-house, and hope that someone... More

A very enjoyable experience. Dont expect a luxury spa because thats not what this place is about. It is a traditional Turkish bath where you will be, sreamed, loofahed and soaped and scrubbed then rinsed off, wrapped in towels whilst you cool down. It was a very different and relaxing experience. Unfortunately on the day we went there were two... More

It was our first visit to a hammam (but not our last!), so it's hard to compare to other hammam's. But it was awesome! Lying on the hot marble beds, looking up at the small windows in the dome was very relaxing and sweaty. It's pretty cool that it dates all the way back to the 600's. It's for couples,... More
