Beautiful beach to visit in the evening during sunset. The beach is well maintained and walking/ jogging in the morning is also possible. The beach very close to Colombo city and fairly clean. There are plenty of places to eat and hangout. Easy access to the train station or public buses for travel.

After Wellawate (5kms to the north) Mt Lavinia was a green, quiet and pleasant haven. The beach was close and fairly clean and there are plenty of places to eat. There is easy acces to the train station for travel.

Lots of locals, few bars, nice spot to relax. We only stayed briefly so can't comment on other local facilities

We called in for a look. They have done a lot of renovating and returned it to its former glory. The view is spectacular, the service is lovely. As one of the oldest hotels in Colombo a stay would be well worthwhile

Mostly built in 1806, and a classic! All meals were great, service was tops. Fabulous area too. Great for walking. A tip: lower floor has less views. Best rooms are 2-4 facing water.

The best beach that's only 1/2 away from Colombo city. There are enough eateries and hotels to select from, to dine and wine or just to stay over night. good place to spend a holiday...except that it's quite crowded on weekends and holidays.

We stayed in Mount Lavinia area during our stay in Colombo. The beach is very popular among tourists as well as locals. Some upmarket cafes are there along the beach. If you are staying here it is well connected to the main city and one can easily catch a bus.

Its a great hotel specially those who are looking for a typical collonial touch to the stay. Staff is extremely courteous and if something goes wrong Mr. Mahesh steps in like a super man and correct everything to best. Superb personal beach. Okay swimming pool.
