Gangaramaya temple is a fairly old temple. But since about 3 or 4 years ago they have started charging an Entrance fee. this temple has very rich Dayakas or regular devotees and is in no way of needing more money. the temple is well worth a visit. guides are not necessary.

very interesting to see; it had lots of history tucked away, while still being a temple. Good location; must see.

Crowded due to the new year, but well worth a trip. Beautiful buddha's and lovely sculptures. Nice atmopshere.

The temple is a bit ancient and is full of antigues. Visitors are not allowed to enter with shoes or hats. As you enter you will see two old cars one is a Rolls Royce. Religious areas are well laid and there is sufficient space to walk around. Parking space is in short supply. It is very close to city... More

This is certainly not a traditional Buddhist Temple and certainly not a Temple that would be patronized by true Buddhists.

A religious place with Buddihist statues. Must see the beautiful lake as well. It is located in a calm and quiet environment and you can escape from busy life of Colombo at least for a while.

Nice temple with all types of buddha sculptures, from tiny to huge, painted or golden etc. in different temples or terraces. Don't go for the elephant, it's kind of hidden and looks very sad. What is really amazing is the collection of gifts they have accumulated over the years going from rolls royces, ivory, type writers, sculptures to old coins... More

For a chance to see a beautiful bodhi tree, colourful shrines, an elephant and a seriously wacky collection of antiques, this is a must see! Beware the dress code - shoulders and legs covered.

Its a nice place and must visit in the city of Colombo to get a feel of what Buddhism is all about. It also has a nice museum which is worth a watch. All in all spent an hour here. There is an entry fees for the museum but entry to temple is free.

A peaceful place in a busy city. If you go in the morning you might be able to see monks feeding the birds. But it is in the evening that the temple is busy and gets full of people. Recommend it for a quick drop by if you are in Colombo.
