Animal cages are too small and some of them are empty, construction going on in most of the exhibit part. Not worth wasting your time more than two hours. The animals seemed bushed. The zoo was extremely dirty, smelly and had a generally bad feeling. Zoo has been not implemented what as seen 15 years ago. The only thing we... More

My family (2 adults one toddler) went to the Zoo upon recommendations from our hotel staff. The first surprise was the extremely big difference in admission for tourists and locals. 2500 rupees per foreigner vs 700 for locals - outrageous! Even zoos in the US are not that expensive. Our tuk-tuk driver told us to put our camera away, as... More

It was hot, humid and overcrowded. Went there during Eid. It was not the best experience. We rushed though and skipped some displays. It is expensive for the state the zoo is in. I have to say they have a good collection of animals, some that we had never seen before. It is well organized. If You just follow the... More

During my short visit in Central Colombo between 25/08/13 to 29/08/13 I decided to visit the local Zoo on Wednesday 28/08/13, i arrived early to avoid the crowds however I was surprised how many local families were waiting with many children when I arrived. On checking out the admission fee I'm surprised with the cost between the locals & foreigners... More

This is one of the best Zoological garden I have ever visited. Very safe place for you and your family members to see all kinds of animals. So many varieties of animals are there from all around the world. I certainly recommended this place as a must visit place for any traveler. One of the major attraction in sri lanka... More

It was a hot day when I visited the zoo it was fairly busy with locals who threw things at the animals to get them to move. The animals show signs of discomfort and most look sad and are caged in small areas. The cost of entry was 2000 for foreigners and 100 for locals, the reason for this is... More

Liked the acquarium the best. A little sad to see animals caged. It is a place to learn about animals and the variety is large. Still enjoy visiting the zoo every year.

Currently undergoing improvements (at the time of my visit), Zoo has a decent variety of animals, birds and an aquarium. Elephant and Seal shows are a great attractions for kids especially. Seating facility and cleanliness to be improved in these areas. This is a key responsibility of the visitors to keep the place tidy. Continuosly adding new animals and birds.... More

I dragged my teenage boys along because my previous visits had been great. I'd forgotten that cages are small, however there are many improvements happening on this front. Credit card not available the day we went causing a major crisis as the ATM next door was being 'maintained' at the time also. No issue with paying more than the locals... More

The Dehiwela Zoo is a popular destination for locals, especially on public holidays, which are to be avoided. The selection of fauna is relatively broad, and focuses as it should on domestic wildlife and birds, but the stark evidence of a limited budget is apparent in the condition of the enclosures and cages. Generally the animals appear well-cared for, but... More
