I liked the zoo very much. There are more animals than the zoos in kerala... It was a lot of fun. Just wanted to spend some more time over there

For some reason, I tend to seek out zoos and botanical gardens in cities that I visit. Just seems to provide a respite from whatever hectic activities I might be involved in during my stay. Colombo’s Zoological Gardens is very well stocked with a wide range of animals from lemurs and wild pheasants to elephants, lions, tigers and giraffes. The... More

This zoo had an extensive selection of animals and it's good to be able to see them so close up and touch some of them but the conditions they are in are not at all nice or humane. Big cats in tiny concrete floored metal cages. Eagles that can't spread there wings properly to fly. Elephants chained by two legs... More

The entrance is very expensive for the tourists (now it's 2500 rs.). The territory is rather large and green, but some amilals are kept in very bad conditions. Especially some beautiful srilankan leopards and bears live in extremely small cages with concrete floor. It's so sad to see them living a life like this(

For foriegners avoid visit on weekends and local holidays. Its much crowded with local families. And try to catch the time of feeding for elephant and sea lions which is around 10.00am and 4.00 pm. Timing marked near the entrance. These along with shows.. where even you could feed milk bottle to a baby elephant

Animal cages are too small and some of them are empty, construction going on in most of the exhibit part. Not worth wasting your time more than two hours. The animals seemed bushed. The zoo was extremely dirty, smelly and had a generally bad feeling. Zoo has been not implemented what as seen 15 years ago. The only thing we... More

My family (2 adults one toddler) went to the Zoo upon recommendations from our hotel staff. The first surprise was the extremely big difference in admission for tourists and locals. 2500 rupees per foreigner vs 700 for locals - outrageous! Even zoos in the US are not that expensive. Our tuk-tuk driver told us to put our camera away, as... More

It was hot, humid and overcrowded. Went there during Eid. It was not the best experience. We rushed though and skipped some displays. It is expensive for the state the zoo is in. I have to say they have a good collection of animals, some that we had never seen before. It is well organized. If You just follow the... More

During my short visit in Central Colombo between 25/08/13 to 29/08/13 I decided to visit the local Zoo on Wednesday 28/08/13, i arrived early to avoid the crowds however I was surprised how many local families were waiting with many children when I arrived. On checking out the admission fee I'm surprised with the cost between the locals & foreigners... More
