The impressive Colombo museum building is a landmark in Colombo. That's about all it was for many years with its leaky and dull interior, devoid of artefacts. However, it has recently been re-done and should be one of the must-visit sites of the city. The history of Sri Lanka is well presented and there are manly impressive representations of all... More

Depicts the Sri Lankan history and heritage in this huge two story mansion. Lot of reading to be done if you are interested. Methodical and organized. But does not give the grandiosity of the ancient civilization as I expected. For a foreigner, a must go place.

Walking through this museum gives the traveler a wonderful introduction to this amazing country. This gem sure could use more funding, especially if the government is serious about its tourism efforts.

Some interesting things, most of it not very well maintained or explained, but good for a visit. Do NOT bother with the natural history museum that it is on the same property, it's inaccurate, pitiful and appallingly badly maintained and stuffy

I can trace back our country's heritage and history from this one site. It also houses a Devil mask collection, one of only 2 in the world (of that vintage). The Archive is fascinating for anyone interested in finding books you probably could not find anywhere else in such pristine original condition. The new cafe is not a bad addition... More

Amazing museum with top articles from the old time. It is a very well maintained place and people from 6 to 60 can really enjoy going through the historical stuff they have. A must see place for tourists visiting Colombo.

No A/C so it gets very hot in the middle of the day. A few nice items. The cafe is more for the locals. Take toilet paper everywhere with you!
