We were the only non-locals in the area and although we didn't feel threatened in any way, we were clearly "getting under their feet". Spent 1 hour or more there - listening to the caretaker (of 20 years) explain the intricacies of this ancient place. Took the same mode of... More

Pettah area in Colombo is easily reachable by 3-wheeler or walking from the Galle Face Green, and it's directly opposite the Fort Railway Station. if you walk around a bit, you will come to the Prince street, and will easily see a very old building, the Dutch Museum. Entry is about 500 rupees, and there are some faded exhibits, which... More

The main thing about pettah is you can get anything you want for half of the price in stores (t-shirts to electrical items...etc),but you have to bargain for it otherwise the vendors will try to sell at high price. it’s always better to buy from the stores which has permanent location rather that the pedestrian sellers. Because some of them... More

Pettah was amazing with all you could concieve being sold in this area. If you can think of it they will have it for sale. Want a green orangutang they have it, want fake anything they have it. There is also a dutch museum located in Pettah which is 'sort of' worth a visit, the villa itself is nicely decked... More

Just east of Fort lies Pettah, the low end shopping district if Colombo. You will find everything from fruits to flowers, from gold to trinkets; from saris to t-shirts, from pots and pans to - simply think of it and its there. The overcrowded labyrinth of lanes and alleys is truly fascinating. Goods are stacked on the roadsides in heaps... More
