A lovely quiet place to go if you are interested in bird watching. I got there by tuk tuk and the driver waited as it is a bit out of the way. Although I went there at 11 in the morning I was able to see some birds but I am sure it is even nicer very early in the... More

number of birds to be seen and it's location so close to the hotel. Had we arrived at the hotel in the afternoon we would have had more time than we had the next morning before we left for our next stop on our trip. The wetland is an ideal habitat for wading birds and a good place for bird... More

This morning at 6 am a colleague who works at our Sri lanka office took me and another colleague for birdwatching here. We saw more than 25 different bird species, it was spectacular and I can highly recommend it.

like- quiet, shady, lots of birds, has garden seats to just sit and relax dislike- access roads are horrid.once one gets there it is ok for cycling.being too quiet can invite shady characters. so being aware will help.

My girlfriend I visited the wetlands today. Our concierge told us there was'nt much to see, as this is where he was from, and in a sense he was right. When we eventually arrived our tuk tuk driver was not sure we were there untill we said "yes this is it" as there were a few signs about the Thalangama Tank... More

Only half an hour from Colombo, Talangama offers an ideal chance to familiarise yourself with Sri Lankan birdlife while you get over your jetlag. As well as all the water birds detailed in other reviews, we saw the elusive Indian Koel, red Paradise Flycatcher, sunbirds, the Black-Headed Oriole, Lesser Yellownape Woodpecker and numerous others. There are wetlands, lakes and some... More

Talangama wetland is very close to Colombo City. Drive towards Pelawatta junction which takes about 30 minutes and take the DP Wijesinghe Road. Pass the defense areas and turn in to the lake road and drive around a kilometer to find Talangama lake and mangroves which forms the wetland. The paddling boats can take you in to the labyrinth of... More

Its hard to believe this place is so close to the capital city. At ANY time you visit, the variety of exotic birds don't disappoint, they always show up. Closer to December, bird watchers can see varieties of migrant birds too. Picturesque location, with exotic plants, flowers, birds, more birds, turtles, terrapins, water monitor lizards and even loads of buffalo... More

Talangama Wetlands is a marshy wetland with rich flora and fauna. To the best of my knoledge, this rich marshland is not an environmentally protected place, which is a pity. The best times to visit are at dawn and at sunset. Take a walk around the lake and feel the pulse of the nature.
