Just spent a weeks down the east coast of Sri Lanka with my boyfriend. We were blad to be there, since it is one of the best beaches in Sri Lanka for all the beach lovers around the world. Perfect waves for surfing and perfect beaches for swimming. And we enjoyed the beach party's, perfect view of sun rise and sun... More

The bay itself is beautiful, especially at sunset (and doubly so at the onset of a warm storm) and sunrise when all the fishing boats come in. When it comes to the water though, at least for a non-surfer, the nearby Peanut Farm was incredible: a gorgeous, isolated little spot with families learning to surf and couples swimming. For 1200... Just returned from a 4 week trip to SL. Such an amazing country and so many great experiences. The biggest let down was Arugam Bay. As an experienced 27 yr old surfer I was looking forward to this part of our travels the most. I have surfed in many parts of the world and rented boards from all over with... More

This place is way overpriced for what it is. I've travelled all over Asia this being one of my last stops and I was disgusted at the greed that has taken the locals here. Just coming from Bali, Indonesia - the most touristy surf destination in Asia - i was shocked at how much the restaurants and guest houses and... More

Most cherished of all my memories had attached to the last trip we made to arugam bay with my family. The best place for surfing is not the arugambay, best one is called peanut farm. If you wish to go to peanut farm better ask from local tuk tuk driver. It is located 1km away from arugambay, towards panama side.... More

As I read here there are many people having had trouble renting a board at Hasan surfshop so I decided also to share my experience. Seems to be Hasan's business strategy to charge people extrem high prices for board repair in case of damage to a rented board. I was charged 3000 for a 1 cm scratch and my friend... More

Hasan Surf House in Arugum Bay charged me 9,000 rupees for damage to a surfboard. When I said that was way too expensive he started threatening me. When I said I would go to the police he threatened me even more ... saying it would cost me much more and that he know how to get money from me because... More

arugam bay is for me the best place of the east coast, surfing, wild elephants, relaxing atmosphere, nice restaurants . About accommodation I can suggest sea flower at the beginning of town, it is new clean and quiet and fair price (most of the accommodations under 5000 l have very simple rooms). For eating blue ocean, small local restaurant, local... More

Took us 17yrs of visiting Sri Lanka to get here and it was worth the wait. Great place with some lovely accommodation, shops, bars and restaurants. It is not over developed and so glad we made the 8hr journey to get here.

Arugam bay seemed to be a popular surfing spot, but it wasn't good for much else. After visiting stunning beaches such as uppuveli and passikudah on the east coast, arriving at arugam bay was so disappointing. It's a small bay full of fishing boats, little space for sunbathing, and sea too wavy for swimming. Arugam bay is NOT a paradise... More
