You should never leave Mongolia without visiting this place. Best time to go is of course during the summer. You'll surely get your fill of all the greens, wide open spaces, gers, horses, etc. Try camping at or around the vicinity of the park and enjoy everything that nature has to offer. Stay at a ger for the ultimate experience.

It is only 75kms north east of UB and easy to get there either by hiring a car or bus. Mountain biking, canoeing, horse trekking is excellent.

This may be a national park, but I wasn't impressed. It could have been October with cold weather and wind, but there wasn't much to keep my attention. the drive in was interesting with some fine rock formations and the usual collection of ger camps, but I saw little more than that. For us, the best part was the early... More

We joined an organised bus trip to Terelj NP and en route we saw the Ghengis Khan statue, another statue in UB, stopped at the side of the road to see eagles and buy pine nuts etc. We arrived at the park and had free time (none of us wanted to horse ride) until lunch. Lunch was handmade meat or... More

It is a visionary country that has as much open space as Mongolia has, that starts to preserve it's treasures. Terelj is just 50 km from Ulaanbaatar, and is easily accessed. Driving through the park, one realizes how many people around the world want to experience staying or living in a ger (often called by the Russian word "yurt"), as... More

On the way back to UB we found this camp with huge concrete dinosaurs in the middle of nowhere. It was a school camp closed for winter we think. Bizarre and excellent.

Rugged and vast, the area of Mongolia north of the Gobi Desert is stunningly beautiful, especially the Terelj National Park. Some of the outcropping visible through our tour bus window was truly amazing. We passed rivers, valleys, nomadic horses, many Gers. Would love to return.

Go out of season when the tourist camps are closed to appreciate the countryside and rock formations.

This is a wonderful place and very thought provoking. From Turtle rock to the Buddist temple, it is awesome. It was a fantastic contrast to the capital city, but only about 90 minutes drive away. We stayed at a Ger camp, which was brilliant. The meal we had at night in the restaurant was the best meal of the week... More
