This place caught our attention after leaving Swenson’s. We spent about half an hour waiting for it to open after lunch, there’s a carved Tiar kha tree stump outside that was interesting. It had carvings of rural life things like a New Year procession, rice pounding with another carving of the welcoming of a guest with a drink of white... More

Had a guide who filled us in on all the history. Think a guide is a must if you want to get an indepth understanding of the history and artifact significance.

We were really impressed by the efforts to set up and maintain this place. It is exactly what it says on the tin. It shows the history of Laos and it's people. Yes, there is probably a bit of propaganda thrown in. So what? That is a part of the history too! It is housed in a splendid colonial style... More

The sad state of the Lao Museum is actually reflective of the state the country is in. From the fountain which didn't work at the entrance to the well worn displays, the neglected building is badly in need of repairs. Still worth a visit as you get to know what Laos has gone through and is going through. Left me... More

Lovely old colonial building but could do with a face lift. Some interesting exhibitions. An hour should be enough time.

Good insight to how life in Laos has evolved. Not too much to do in Vientiane. But this is probably on the list for most travelers who are staying a day or two

Its worth a look. Very interesting. Bit run down could do with a makeover. Their is a great pitza shop just up the road.

This is the Laos National Museum - and it needs help. The museum is in a lovely old colonial building but it is in need of some serious attention and some money spent on both the building and the exhibits. There are some interesting exhibits but huge sections of Loas history and the Laos peoples culture is paid very scant... More

This is a great little place to head for if you have a spare hour or two. It could certainly do with a bit of a makeover but there is plenty in here to keep you interested. A particular highlight is a massive ancient drum that was excavated intact during the clearance of UXO and it is quite insightful as... More
