This museum is in my opinion exactly such as Lao people: proud and brave in a discreet and cute way! Not the Louvre, but a genuinely charming. And, dear travelmates, propaganda is everywhere, even in our great democracies.

I visited at my daughter's suggestion. 10,000 kip. The museum is well laid out and follows logically from ancient times trough the revolution. I liked the 2,000-year-old human bones, the dinosaur skeleton, French provincial-era rifles, and the photos from the revolutionary era. Some may be offended by what they consider communist propaganda, but for me, this excellently represents the times.... More

This place wasn't that far from my hotel, so I walked to it. It's a small to medium museum, but it was totally worth a visit. I think I spent a good hour and a half looking at every single piece of art.

If you need a reminder that Lao is a Communist country then please visit. There is a war Musuem in Hanoi which has plenty of anti American propaganda but that is handled well. This is a waste of your time.

This place caught our attention after leaving Swenson’s. We spent about half an hour waiting for it to open after lunch, there’s a carved Tiar kha tree stump outside that was interesting. It had carvings of rural life things like a New Year procession, rice pounding with another carving of the welcoming of a guest with a drink of white... More

We were really impressed by the efforts to set up and maintain this place. It is exactly what it says on the tin. It shows the history of Laos and it's people. Yes, there is probably a bit of propaganda thrown in. So what? That is a part of the history too! It is housed in a splendid colonial style... More

The sad state of the Lao Museum is actually reflective of the state the country is in. From the fountain which didn't work at the entrance to the well worn displays, the neglected building is badly in need of repairs. Still worth a visit as you get to know what Laos has gone through and is going through. Left me... More

Lovely old colonial building but could do with a face lift. Some interesting exhibitions. An hour should be enough time.
