Some good artefacts, but a neglected, rotting building with decaying wiring and no evidence of any plans to renovate or rebuild. Much of the 'collection' is photographis prints. One hopes the negatives of what is potentially (if well curated) an interesting and historically valuable record of significant events - are safely stored in much better conditions. Apparently it was the... More

The National Museum is housed in a grand building. It is a real pity that it has not been maintained well. Laos was heavily bombed during the Vietnam war years - and every reference to USA is labelled as "The Imperialist ....." Some of the exhibits seem to be gathering dust. I think that the museum needs an injection of... More

Whilst you are in Vietiane and there is not much to see at all, I suggest if you don't take the time out to visit even mediocre attractions you will be bored out of your mind. There is nothing mind blowing here to see but if it relieves the boredom, it's worth doing. More

If you can accept the the propaganda after the 1950's with sweeping references to US imperialists and their puppets, it is a pleasant enough museum to spend an hour or two. More

Being a History graduate i enjoy learning about the history of each country i visit and a knew very little about the history of Laos. Unfortunatly this visit to the museum didnt help. The exhibits are very poor (a brick was one of the pieces) and they try to fit everything from the jurassic period to present day in 4... More

The museum is quite weary but still shows the phases of the area. Interestingly, almost all communist related pictures and statues etc. have explanatory texts in Lao only. Other matters are mostly described in English and French, too. Half to one hour is enough time for this sight. More

A quaint little place! Probably us and one other visitor there browsing around. It was the sort of place I would like to get hold of repaint, relabel and organise. However, we did purchase two beautiful silk wall hangings in the gift shop. Worth a visit if you have plenty of time, and you can visit the ice cream parlour... More

This is a great place to get a feel for the communist influences that were at work in the past and the war is well documented here as well so you will get a good insight into part of their history. More
